Key West in general is wonderful because everything is pretty much within walking distance. This resort is at the very end of the quieter side of Duval. Pool is nice, rooms are a good size and nicely equipped. Our room was on the 2nd floor and I had a broken foot. There’s no elevator so if you have mobility issues be sure to ask for a lower level room. Getting our luggage up and down the stairs as well as having to slowly hobble up multiple times a day with a cast on was a bit of a challenge. The beach was awful. It was black and unusable. The sargassum was terrible while we were there which is obviously not the resorts fault but be mindful of that as well. With the location being ocean side we had beautiful views ( minus the beaches current condition) but the smell was horrendous. The further we got from the resort the less we could smell it. Overall, we were very pleased and would stay here again. However, if you’re coming during sargassum season be prepared to need to visit other beaches and bring nose plugs.

The best vacation to Key West yet. Our guesthouse was beautiful, great location, beach, bar, clean, quiet and the breakfast in the morning is amazing. There's also a decent workout room.

In this huge property we were given a room where the elevator does not work for entire stay. A bit disappointed in the fact that we were not advised prior that the beach was closed off the beach was the main reason we booked this property.

Guest House on Deval Street

The only problem is when you stay at one of the guest houses there is misleading information and you might be disappointed. It should state not directly on the beach. The Duval guest house is convenient to the town. Nice private pool. Also it is not clear about the parking when booking there is an extra fee.

Room was good clean and staff was friendly. Very disappointed in pool areas and beach areas which is the number one reason we picked this property. Beach area was unusable due to the seaweed and the sand was dug up at the moment. Also the pool bar closed by 5 pm which we thought was strange. Would not stay there again.

Pros. The room was spacious and clean and just like the pictures. We were there after the 4th of July weekend so the resort was quiet and not crowded so you can easily find sunbathing chairs and enjoy the resort facilities. The check-in staff were nice. Cons. It was seaweed season as they say, and apparently they let nature run its course without any intervention, so the private beach area was buried in seaweed, it cannot be used. Also the seaweed area emits a bad odor that extends to the surrounding rooms and pool. The pools are usually crowded and not clean ( even with goggles you can’t see the bottom of the pool). I didn’t appreciate that I was in the family pool area with my kids and the people there were smoking and cursing. Also I didn’t like that the bell boy helping with the bags was smashing it to the floor as he unload! The bag wheels could’ve break and we would’ve been so screwed! Finally during check out the front disk were sticklers for checking out at eleven am and not 12 even though the resort was practically empty. Final note; I think overall the resort was good compared to the other resorts in the area I would still recommend it to travelers (preferably kids-free) however be ware of seaweed season if you wish to enjoy the water. I however don’t see my self coming back here or to Key west in general.

Avalon House at Southernmost Resort was excellent. We had the double queen which is front left upstairs room. Windows are on common porch so we kept drapes pulled at night and lights from street do shine through. But the convenience of Duval was the win! Out the door and into the fun. Steps from Dewey House breakfast and Shores Pool (our favorite). Online map made things look expansive to me but everything close by. Front desk service was great on check in/out and any questions. Text concierge answered a bunch for us too. Lots of cart, bike, scooter options nearby and we chose to walk mostly. Weather/seas had beach seaweed covered. We’re told it’s the public beach (although nestled between pool and cafe) so city responsible for clean up. We noticed nearby private beaches being cleaned up. Loved our stay and would highly recommend It!

The property overall worked for our stay, but there were so many disappointing factors. Not sure how it got rated so highly. The Adults-only upgrade isn’t worth it so save your money and book a regular room. Our rooms at the Avalon were TINY, literally nowhere to even put your suitcases to get organized. They were upgraded, cute and clean just so small and sizes were stated nowhere on the site so the pictures are very misleading. The breakfast we got with Adults Only package we upgraded to was mediocre at best. Food sits out without ice for 2 hours and you basically get eggs or an omelet with a side. The extra pools you get with the deal were misleading too because they don’t even monitor the adults only option, we had kids in all the pools and just ended up hanging at the Shores pool the whole time anyways because it was the best one. The private beach area was a complete bust, smelled awful & wasn’t maintained at all along with the pier off of it. Total disappointment. Should really upgrade this. We wanted to just book a cheaper hotel once we arrived based off all of this, but especially because it was just a girls trip and we are very easy going, we just didn’t want to go through the hassle of relocating. We booked our whole trip to Key West around this resort. Overall, good location and decent accommodations if you get over how misleading the pictures are online. Not worth over $430+ a night when you factor all of this in. Just stay somewhere cheaper with a decent pool.

Super disappointed in the private beach area. Really the reason we booked this resort and it was in rough condition and was basically told they don’t maintain it from June - August. Smelled awful because of al the seaweed and was an eyesore.

Beautiful landscaping and greenery. Most maintained thing in the property. Enjoyed that a lot.

Lots of areas to relax, even though the beach area was a total bust.

The location and proximity to the beach was why we booked this property. Unfortunately, the aweful smell of rotting seaweed on beaches deterred us from using the beaches or spending time at the hotel facilities closest to the beach. Pleae update the posted hours for breakfast as it does not start at 7am. There was no coffee maker in room nor available at the front desk. The room did not get cleaned 1 day our 5 day stay.

This is a lovely resort. The rooms were modern, clean and well cared for. The staff was ultra responsive to any needs. The managers used texts to check in on guests and readily answered questions. The pools were very nice. The only downside was the beach--there was a lot of seaweed and muddiness that made it difficult to get into the water. This wasn't a big deal & it might have been the time of year. I'm mentioning it to anyone going with intentions of sitting on the beach. We had a wonderful time and the location is wonderful. We also used the Loop bus to get easily to the other end of Duval Street.

Pictures don’t match watch you get. Tiny room, tiny shower, tiny sink, tiny toilet between sink and wall. Best to call and make sure you get want you want. Also beach front was smelly and mud piled up not used.

There is no beach ocean access even though they say there is unless you want to trudge through rotting algae! The smell from the rotting algae was terrible! The room had a strong smell and we noticed bugs in the toilet and little bugs scurrying around on the bathroom floor and sink. The staff was friendly! They didn’t clean our room one day so we went to ask for towels because we’d used the ones we had for 3 showers. We had been walking around the downtown area and it’s was a super hot day and we were covered in sweat and wanting to shower! It took me calling again after 45 to 50 minutes had went by and nothing. Then another 15 minutes later someone finally came with towels. If they’re changing a $60 a day resort fee I’d think they could deliver a better experience plus a $43 parking fee every day!

The property location was ideal. The room was comfortable and clean. The elevators weren’t working during our stay, so that was a bummer. Otherwise, the staff was great and the property was beautiful. I would stay here again.

This property was awesome. The room was clean and reminded you of a garden home. We had a small personal pool right outside our door. The food at the restaurant and drinks was awesome. Staff is amazing and so accommodating. We definitely will be back.

We stayed at Duval Gardens which is a part of Southernmost but a little more private and down the road from the main resort. A shuttle/golf cart driver was provided to get us back and forth from main resort as needed. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The housekeeper Kayla and the concierge Jules were so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The beaches were full of seaweed during our stay so we could not use the beaches, but the pools were amazing! Duval Gardens even has its own little pool. We had breakfast included- delicious!! I would definitely stay here again.

The room was nice and the pool we visited was clean. The hotel itself wasn't bad, but the Air Force planes flying over head in the morning was super loud and the beach was really stinky. The private beach for this hotel wasn't useable because of all the seaweed that washed up and the smell.

This Resort had a lot to offer. The ability to use 3 different pools was a nice feature - though we mostly used the pool closest to our room.
