Accommodation In Fiji

BULA! Welcome to Fiji. Fiji is an archipelago of more than 300 islands, with the majority being formed through volcanic activity over 150 million years ago. Today, Fiji is known as one of the top holiday destinations, with year-round tropical weather, pristine beaches and rich culture. Experience it for yourself with our Fiji accommodation.

Accommodation In Fiji

You could re-watch Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical South Pacific for a preview of all that Fiji holidays have to offer, or you could just look at beautiful beach photos and pack your togs and sunnies. Where else can you spend your days exploring lush rainforest reserves, tanning on golden beaches and escaping to peaceful temple gardens?

This small archipelago includes more than 300 individual islands and a variety of Fiji hotels, from British bungalows to beachside resorts. Many of the most popular attractions can be found in the larger coastal cities. Stay in Suva, the capital, for easy access to top cultural sites. Or book accommodation near the Garden of the Sleeping Giant to wake up to park views and the scent of orchids on the west coast of the main island, known as Viti Levu.

Things to Do in Fiji

Cut to the chase—or more accurately, the lounge—and head to the beach. If you aren’t the sporty type, shake out your towel on Natadola Beach in the southwest corner of Viti Levu. Check out Fiji’s coral-lined shore with a diving trip to Long Beach on Kadavu, or count the colours in the Rainbow Reef as you swim in the Somosomo Strait between Vanua Levu and Taveuni Islands.

To air-dry, catch a boat to Taveuni and embark on the Lavena Coastal Walk. Believe us, walking for three hours while on holiday is a big deal. Treat yourself to a good steep in the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool in Nadi back on Viti Levu, where you can soak up the best of Fiji’s natural resources while you indulge your inner child.

When you’re ready to trade high tides for high culture, browse the prehistoric artefacts at the Fiji Museum in Suva before making your way to Pacific Harbour to see what local Fijians are up to in the Arts Village. If art makes you feel peckish, stuff your face with seafood curries and fish so fresh you’ll think it swam right up to the kitchen! Scarf it all down, then sleep off the food coma in luxurious Fiji accommodation.

Getting To & Around Fiji

Most flights to Fiji land ta Nadi International Airport (NAN) on the northwest coast of Viti Levu, or at Nausori International Airport (SUV), located about 18km northeast of Suva. Nadi is a busier hub with more international flights arriving and departing daily, but if you’re flying in from nearby, choose the airport that best suits your itinerary and location of your hotels in Fiji. Once on the islands, a combination of car hire and boat service is the most time-efficient way to get around.

Upcoming Events

Islands across the South Pacific are noted for their festivals, and Fiji is no different. Clear your schedule for the end of July, when the Bula Festival takes place. Located in Nadi, Bula is a week-long party loaded with locals dressed in colourful costumes, a Pacific dancing competition and dining stalls serving up some of the best food in Fiji.

Do you feel like checking out a Fijian beauty pageant? Hit up the Hibiscus Festival at the beginning of August where traditional dances, sporting events and a float parade take place. But the big finale is at the end, when men and women—kings and queens—are crowned for their beauty.

If you’re visiting during the lovely month of October, you should find yourself at a Diwali Festival. “The Festival of Lights” is a sight to be seen, to say the least. The Fijians love this holiday so much, they start celebrating even a week before the official day arrives. Fireworks, sparklers, lamps and lanterns are all on offer during these wild nights.

Get Outside!

You’ve heard about the fantastic diving expeditions and beach walks Fiji has to offer, but the hiking is ridiculous. Go for a 3km hike to a series of three waterfalls known as Tavoro Falls. The walk to all of them weaves through the rainforest and occasionally offers beautiful vistas of the coastline. Don’t forget to take a dip in the pools of water below and cool off.

There are plenty of places to stay in Fiji, but Viti Levu makes for a really awesome home base, especially if you stay near the Sigatoka River. Reserve yourself a spot on one of the river’s jet boat safaris and fly around at Mach 38 through scenic gorges. Just be sure to hang on for dear life as your madman of a skipper sees how much your stomach can handle.

How does a day trip to an island the size of a city block sound? Check out a Tivua Island All-Inclusive Day Cruise and set your sails for eight sheets to the wind. You’re further away from everyday life than Tom Hanks was in Cast Away. Holidays are hard, huh?

One Day in Fiji

Are you on a layover and only have time to spend one day in Fiji? Not a problem. We’ve got some epic things for you to check out.

Take a stroll through the Suva Municipal Market and pick up a pair of fresh coconuts. After you’ve guzzled the milk from them, slice them in half and make a pretty bikini top. And don’t forget to suck down a cup of kava. It’s a local drink that looks like dirty dishwater and makes your teeth numb. It’s great!

After the kava has kicked in, take a walk through the Fiji Museum and get a look at a rudder from the HMS Bounty, the ship that had the famous mutiny aboard. But the craziest thing on display is the set of cannibal forks. Yes, you read that right. Cannibal forks. Just take a quick guess at what they were used for.

So there it is. If you can’t find a good reason to visit Fiji after reading this, then we don’t know what to tell you. We’re going to guess you found at least one, though, and that’s good, because there’s no better time to book a trip with Wotif than right now. We expect a postcard.
