"A touch of class that is all class"
We were spoilt from the moment we walked in the door at Raffles! We were on our honeymoon and the staff took extra good care of us and made sure our stay not only at the hotel but in China was the best possible. Our room was upgraded, which was absolutely divine and stunning! One of the best beds I have ever slept in!! Everyone was so friendly and helpful, we were given lots of advice about how to get around, what to see, what to be watchful of. We were so close to everything, a big shopping street, major attractions and the subway! Raffles was value for money and then they took it to another level.

"Perfect location for exploring."
We had an enjoyable experience, the hotel was clean and tidy with all the required conveniences. The location is perfect for sight seeing being within walking distance to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City and close to a subway station. English speaking staff were few and far between but it isn't an amusing holiday unless you get to mime your requests. My only major gripe is that someone (hopefully the cleaners) left our door wide open while we were out exposing our valuables to the wider population (happy to say nothing was taken).

The Forbidden City is a must-do. Wander the grounds and the Imperial Chinese court, while you admiring a palace that was built for the rulers of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. You can relax in the beautiful courtyards or enjoy the grandeur of the temples and shrines. Just next door is Zhongshan Park, a peaceful park full of bamboo groves and ancient trees, and an ideal spot for tranquillity. For a unique view of the Forbidden City, rent a paddleboat and explore the moat, where you can see first-hand how impressive the palace is.

The most impressive temple in Beijing is the Lama Temple, which is dedicated to Tibetan Buddhism and famous for its massive statue of Maitreya Buddha. Don't miss the chance to check out the 18m-tall statue, which was carved from a single piece of sandalwood. The neighbourhood outside the temple is fantastic to explore; here you can see real living streets full of food stalls, tiny markets and delicious restaurants. These streets are called "Hutongs" and a walk through these is the best way to appreciate how the locals live.

Don't miss the Confucius Temple, which has unique architecture and is dedicated to the life of the man who is considered one of China's greatest thinkers. Afterwards, visit the world class National Museum of China, where you can browse through the best collection of ancient artefacts in the country, and understand the heritage and culture of China. Stop in at the Imperial City Art Museum and see some of the best Chinese artwork on display, as well as a scale model of both the Forbidden and Imperial Cities.
