Things to do

The area has a big Muslim population and visitors will see different religious buildings, such as the Niujie Mosque and the Fayuan Temple. Another popular spot is the large Huguang Guild Hall, a remarkable and attractive Beijing opera house. Inside you can marvel at the stunning décor and features, with red, green, and gold the prominent colours. There is also a museum where you can learn more about the history of the opera. It is one of the main opera houses in the whole city.

A visit to Liulichang antiques markets provide a real insight into the Chinese culture as these markets are more like a museum. Your eyes will be dazzled amongst the ancient sea of treasures, with over 500 stalls selling everything from ancient porcelain, paintings, calligraphy, jade, carvings, bronze ware, antique furniture, carpet, clocks and jewellery. Delve into Xuan Wu’s darker past and learn about the region’s heritage as a site of public executions during the Qing Dynasty. All the highlights of the city are within easy reach and you can see all the iconic attractions, such as the Forbidden City and Tienanmen Square.
