First and foremost, I have to begin this review by stating the hotel and the rooms are NOT dated. The decor and overall style in the hotel is vintage and leans into the history of the hotel itself, which is lovely. That said, we had a wonderful stay. The bed was very comfortable and we slept great during our stay. We had a corner room on the 5th floor that gave us nice views in two different directions (see photos). The staff were friendly, professional, and very helpful. We are two meals, dinner in The Tavern and breakfast in Nathaniel's. Both meals were great. For dinner, we shared a burger and fries, which was perfect because the portions were large. For breakfast, I had the two egg omelet with a side of parm crusted potatoes and cinnamon raisin toast. Delicious! My kiddo had a waffle with fruit and Nutella, and she very much enjoyed it. We have no complaints. If we visit Salem again, we will happily stay in this historic hotel. The proximity to various points of interest is fantastic.

Highly recommend/worth the price.

The staff was excellent at the front desk as well as all restaurant staff. Location is perfect. The restaurants food & drinks are amazing, I even went to eat there when I wasn’t staying at the hotel. Bathrooms were clean. The price is reasonable. I was able to buy stamps at the front desk & send postcards out through their vintage mail chute. I did not experience ghost activity but the history of the hotel is worth the stay if you’re into that sort of thing. My room was comfortable & I slept great.

The Hawthorne is an older small hotel perfect for a visit to Salem. The rooms are simple but comfortable, parking is available, and most importantly, it is located conveniently within walking distance to all the Salem sites, including the Peabody Essex Museum. They serve a great full breakfast and the traditional lobby is very comfortable for sitting and chatting or catching up on emails.

My daughter and I had a fun, witchy time in Salem. The Hawthorne is perfectly placed close to everything she wanted to see. The food and drinks at the Tavern were fantastic; the staff knowledgeable and caring, and the hotel beautiful. I would definitely stay here again.
