"Lovely spot."
We arrived Sunday afternoon , and welcomed very warmly with a glass of sparkling. The gardens and main buildings are beautiful. The courtyard rooms were very nice with a very comfortable bed. Our only concern being Sunday the restaurant wasn't opened and also we could not gain access after 5.30 to the main house where the lounges and games room were , the whole house was locked up.... In fact we felt we were the only people on the property...... Would recommend staying on a Saturday . The high tea looked very nice .. It was an easy drive to melbourne airport the next morning which was our main choice for staying at woodend.

"Overnight on way to airport."
Suited our purpose well...we were upgraded to king size room with spa by our hospitable host... Our room was a bit dusty and the spa was in need of a spruce up.

"Great place to stay just out of Kyneton."
Both my wife and I had a great time staying there. The staff were very accomodating particularly as I had to pick my wife up from the airport at night and we did not get back until late. They looked after us really well including allowing for a late breakfast. The room and ensuite were very neat and tidy and the room had been pre warmed as was the sitting room allowing us to thaw out after coming out of the car. Breakfast was great again with the staff being very accomodating and also taking the time to have a chat, give us some details about local attractions and generally expressing interest in what we were doing. It is a great spot to stay being central to everywhere and off the main highway so nice and quiet. It is ideal for those staying for the local festivals, concerts or races but also people like me chasing family history. Great hosts and a great place to stay.

"Nice Place to visit"
We had a wonderful overnight stay at The Cleveland - great food in the restaurant, really nice accommodation and beautiful scenery, especially with all the recent frost. Cold in the morning and the water pipes froze, but Mother Nature calls the shots with that one! We had a delightful time and will go back again.

"Country location, close to city"
It was a great weekend retreat from the city, yet still close to all the services. A gorgeous town with a market on the Saturday morning made the weekend even more picturesque. One downside is the motel is close to the road which did have a bit of traffic during the day.

    Pocket Guide: Woodend

Fancy staying in a resort town with a slightly darker past than most?

From the safety of our Woodend accommodation, Victoria you can explore the ‘town at the end of the wood’ and learn a little of this regions notorious bushranger legacy. Woodend made a name for its self during the region gold rush of the 1850’s where it acted as a essential rest stop for prospectors as well as a safe haven from the region's infamous bushrangers. Today Woodend is charming resort town sporting craft shops, native plant nurseries and book shops, as well as a racecourse and golf course.

Accommodation in Woodend reflects the town’s gold rush past and offer visitors an attractive selection of grand hotels, county cottages and boutique guesthouses. With our selection of Woodend accommodation you can position yourself within the town and soak in some of Woodend’s relaxing ambience, or for a more intimate escape choose somewhere a little more rural.

As you wander through Woodend, past its streetscape of heritage buildings, veranda-fronted shops and impressive clock tower, you will note that the town has a very local feel to it. From the local produce on offer in the gourmet shops and restaurants, to the boutique beers served in the town’s hotel, not to mention the abundance of locally produced wine in the region, you are sure to find something to give your tastebuds a treat.

After enjoying a drop of wine in town why not go for a scenic drive and visit some of the 40 cool climate wineries of the region. If it’s a bit early for a drink then a visit to Hanging Rock is a must. Formed 6 million years ago and made famous through film and literature, Hanging Rock is the reputed hideout of bushrangers like ‘Mad Dog’ Morgan and is the perfect spot for a picnic. Located at the rock is the Hanging Rock interpretative centre. The centre offers visitors the chance to discover the history, mystery and geology of the rock and surrounding area. Enjoy a stroll or guided tour around the rock, or if visiting in summer, a night tour of the rock is also offered and adds even more mystery to this icon of Victorian history.

So whether you’re chasing bushrangers or a bottle of red, use our Woodend accommodation as your rest stop in Macedon Ranges.
