"Loo with a view"
My elderly father and I shared a twin room on a mid-week stay. The hotel had no other occupants, indeed staff went home so we were locked out of the main house. The hotel functions mainly as a conference and wedding venue, so when only one room was occupied mid-week, the staff all went home. No dinner, no breakfast. Now that sounds terrible, but it wasn't. It is a 5 minute drive to central Woodend. When we returned from our outing on Day 2, staff were indeed about in readiness for a conference the next day and we enjoyed a gin & tonic in the big house, looking out onto the beautiful garden. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed.

"Delightful B&B "
Lord Admiral House is a delightful B&B. It is in a country environment, a short drive out of Kyneton. Jan and Mike are wonderful hosts with a wealth of knowledge about the area and great local dining suggestions. A great choice of breakfast options - freshly laid eggs and fresh juice were my favourite. The interior is charming and transports one back in time. A wonderful place to relax. Highly recommended.

"Nice Place to visit"
We had a wonderful overnight stay at The Cleveland - great food in the restaurant, really nice accommodation and beautiful scenery, especially with all the recent frost. Cold in the morning and the water pipes froze, but Mother Nature calls the shots with that one! We had a delightful time and will go back again.

"Perfect goodbye to Australia!"
We booked this wonderful motel at the last minute... wanting somewhere within an hour of the airport at Melbourne, but wanting not to spend our last night in the city. Lansefield is a small Victoria town... great pub and an EASY, stress free 45 minute drive into airport through beautiful countryside. The inn was extremely comfortable, quiet and had the most amazing reception staff: She prepared an early breakfast tray that was spectacular and handy for our 7am start. She also presented us with a lovely local Shiraz to enjoy that evening. Needless to say we so appreciated such a generous and stressfree end to a months holiday in Australia. Highly recommend this country inn. Barb and Marcel Rocky Mountain House, Alberta Canada

    Pocket Guide: Woodend

Fancy staying in a resort town with a slightly darker past than most?

From the safety of our Woodend accommodation, Victoria you can explore the ‘town at the end of the wood’ and learn a little of this regions notorious bushranger legacy. Woodend made a name for its self during the region gold rush of the 1850’s where it acted as a essential rest stop for prospectors as well as a safe haven from the region's infamous bushrangers. Today Woodend is charming resort town sporting craft shops, native plant nurseries and book shops, as well as a racecourse and golf course.

Accommodation in Woodend reflects the town’s gold rush past and offer visitors an attractive selection of grand hotels, county cottages and boutique guesthouses. With our selection of Woodend accommodation you can position yourself within the town and soak in some of Woodend’s relaxing ambience, or for a more intimate escape choose somewhere a little more rural.

As you wander through Woodend, past its streetscape of heritage buildings, veranda-fronted shops and impressive clock tower, you will note that the town has a very local feel to it. From the local produce on offer in the gourmet shops and restaurants, to the boutique beers served in the town’s hotel, not to mention the abundance of locally produced wine in the region, you are sure to find something to give your tastebuds a treat.

After enjoying a drop of wine in town why not go for a scenic drive and visit some of the 40 cool climate wineries of the region. If it’s a bit early for a drink then a visit to Hanging Rock is a must. Formed 6 million years ago and made famous through film and literature, Hanging Rock is the reputed hideout of bushrangers like ‘Mad Dog’ Morgan and is the perfect spot for a picnic. Located at the rock is the Hanging Rock interpretative centre. The centre offers visitors the chance to discover the history, mystery and geology of the rock and surrounding area. Enjoy a stroll or guided tour around the rock, or if visiting in summer, a night tour of the rock is also offered and adds even more mystery to this icon of Victorian history.

So whether you’re chasing bushrangers or a bottle of red, use our Woodend accommodation as your rest stop in Macedon Ranges.
