Windsor is, undoubtedly, most well-known for Windsor Castle, Queen Elizabeth's official residence. Take a tour of the castle and soak in the royal atmosphere. At 10:50 on most mornings, you can watch the Changing of the Guard March up High Street. If you've got a ticket to go inside Windsor Castle, you can also watch the half-hour long Changing Ceremony inside the castle walls. Windsor Festival is a popular event, held in September, and features music, literature and the arts. There's always something on at the Theatre Royal and the Royal Windsor Racecourse hosts 26 races between April and October, plus special events such as jazz nights, family fun days and food and wine festivals.

The second most popular tourist attraction in Windsor (especially with children) is Legoland. Here, you can see massive structures, created with tiny yellow bricks; go on rides; watch live performances; and/or construct your own buildings with lego. Windsor Great Park, with the famous Savill Garden, is the perfect place to stretch your legs, have a picnic or visit the Deer Park. You can also walk along the banks of the River Thames, or take a cruise on the water and learn about the history of this mighty landmark. If you feel like getting active, you can have a go at horse riding, polo or rowing on the Thames. If you're here in June, you could even enter the Windsor Triathlon. Windsor is home to designer boutique stores, antique shops and department stores aplenty. For a quick rest stop, head into one of the family-owned restaurants that have been running for several decades. There's everything from ethnic food to burger bars. There are also plenty of traditional English pubs and wine bars around.

Heathrow Airport is about 45 minutes away. You can easily catch a bus or train to Windsor, and then get around town by bus. The historic towns of Reading and Berkshire are well-worth visiting, and are just a stone's throw away.
