My stay at Best Western on Norfinch Drive was tainted by the unprofessional and biased behavior of one front desk employee, Allen. When I handed him my valid credit card, he sighed and said, “Oh, you have this? They didn’t tell you?” He then went on about past guests with unruly children who had ruined his experience. He said, “families like yours” who have the same type of credit card, one issued through Ontario Works have caused problems. In other words, families experiencing hardship, displacement, or worse. This was completely unprompted and made me feel judged and unwelcome as a single Black mother checking in late at night with my exhausted toddler and a cart of luggage after an eviction. Despite my fully paid two-week reservation through Expedia, he said he would cancel it after three days. He even made unnecessary comments about shelters, as if advising me on my options. After I escalated my complaint to Best Western Corporate, Allen later approached me in the restaurant and said, “I guess you called corporate… I told my boss you guys are decent people.” (As if a Black mother and toddler need his approval.) Almost every time I passed the front desk, he was loudly arguing with someone on the phone. Instead of acting professionally, he’d try to chum it up afterward. Every other employee was kind and respectful, but Allen’s behavior made my stay extremely uncomfortable. Expedia should reconsider listing this hotel. Would not recommend.

A spacious room......

My suite was spacious and clean. I enjoyed the separate living and bedroom spaces. It was also nice to have two bathrooms. Check in was quick and welcoming. The attached Element restaurant offered a delicious lunch with a 15% discount for hotel guests. Unfortunately, the walls were very thin. I heard conversations in both the neighboring rooms and hallway.

Liked: our standard two queen bed room was clean. Fridge was a good size. The hotel location was close to the event we were attending. The staff were helpful and timely. Check-in went smoothly. The pool and hot tub were clean. Water bottle fill station on main floor and in the gym. Disliked: room was missing towels in the bathroom, we saw a couple of bugs ( one on counter in bathroom, one on TV console in main room). No ice machine on our floor. Unable to control the temperature in the room: it was too warm and the buttons to control didn't appear to work. Lastly, the pillows were big and somewhat firm; not my preference. Overall, not sure I would stay there again at the price point we paid.
