My family and I stayed here for 6 nights. The staff was very friendly; however, there were many issues that occurred. They say that the ice and water are filtered, but many family members felt sick during our vacation. Perhaps it was the horrible food served in the buffet, snack bar, and specialty restaurants. The drinks were fine, and the pool was nice. There were a few things broken or not working in my or a family member's room. We would call the front desk for water, toilet paper, etc, and sometimes it would never come or we would have to call multiple times. We used the 24-hour room service (you have to pay for it), called and ordered, but the food never came. The only 5 stars I would give would be to the ladies in the spa; the massage was the best part of our vacation. We all were ready to leave when it should have been the opposite.

The place needs some serious renovations. Staff was very friendly, food was good at the buffet. Italian restaurant worst food ever, Spanish restaurant was nice. The pool surrounds was nice except that with the breeze every so often on 11/4 smell like sewer, also not of the water falls work. We were on tower one and one of the elevator never work all 6 days we were there. The fire alarm went off 2 days on a row at 4 am. We went to a wedding so we had a great time

My wife was injured during an excursion after the tour operator instructed everyone to remove their shoes. We booked the excursion through the hotel, as the operator had a desk on the property and picked us up directly from the hotel. After the injury, we visited the hotel doctor, where a hotel employee was present and asked us to sign a liability waiver. The following day, we told our taxi driver where we needed to go for medical services, but he spoke with the gate attendant and other drivers before taking us to a different facility than the one we had requested. This made us uncomfortable, and we had to insist that he take us to the correct location. Medical staff amd am xray there confirmed that my wife had broken toes. At that point, it became clear that our entire trip was ruined and that the hotel was providing little to no assistance. Understandably, we were frustrated and believed compensation was appropriate under the circumstances. When we spoke with the hotel manager, he was very rude and only stated that he would file a report with corporate, where we “might” receive compensation. It has now been over three weeks, and we have not received any meaningful response—only finger-pointing, asks to reach out to mgmt and statements that no one is responsible. This experience has been disappointing, and I expected far better treatment and accountability.

The hotel location was nice and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the busy Puerto Vallarta town. We really enjoyed the food and the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The beach view was great from our hotel room and the all buffet restaurant was facing the ocean and it was beautiful to have breakfast every morning with a great view. I can’t wait to return for my next vacation at the Barcelo.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The room, the balcony, the master shower were spacious and the fridge was refilled daily with enough drinks.
