Hit and Miss Location of hotel is excellent. Stunning views over lake and to Mt Fuji from glass wall room. Pirate ship jetty right next to hotel. If you cross the lake you can access ropeway and busses to attractions. Bed and pillows rather hard for westerners. Bathroom needs updating especially access to shower. Difficult for older people. AC is a problem also. Not having a lift to 2nd floor makes it difficult with suitcases. Staff are polite and helpful EXCEPT for the bar attendant. He is the rudest and unfriendly bar staff we have ever experienced. Why is he in the hospitality industry? Waiter Kawai Is so pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is great. But restaurant prices are over the top. The free bus shuttle to and from the train station is a bonus but needs to be booked prior.

This is a clean and welcoming Japanese style inn on the banks of Lake Ashi. Unfortunately we had very rainy weather and did not get to enjoy the view but we enjoyed the novelty of the futon beds and traditional wooden bath. The buffet breakfast was very good. There was no English language television channel but this is pretty normal in Japan. The room had good wifi and USB points for charging devices.

Hakone Hotel, great location but a little dated.

Pros: Proximity to Lake Ashi and views of Mt Fuji
Cons: Rooms need an update, quite old fashioned and the mould and mildew wasn't pleasant on the wallpaper
Location: Great location for access to Lake Ashi and activities in the vicinity
We paid a premium price to stay in a lake view, Mt Fuji view room. Although the room was large and clean with great views the furnishings and bathroom were dated. There was mould, mildew and bubbling on the wallpaper behind the curtains and the wall nearest the door behind the desk and ceiling (room 217). There was also a musty smell from the mould and mildew. You don't expect this when paying such a high price.
