The Area:

Richmond is one of Tasmania’s most popular heritage destinations, known for its beautifully preserved Georgian buildings, historic churches and charming village atmosphere. Wander along the river, cross the historic Richmond Bridge, visit Richmond Gaol or explore the village’s cafés, bakeries, galleries, antique shops and local produce stores.

Surrounding Richmond is the picturesque Coal River Valley, one of Tasmania’s leading cool-climate wine regions. Spend a relaxed day visiting nearby cellar doors, including Pooley Wines, Puddleduck Vineyard, Every Man and His Dog Vineyard, Frogmore Creek and Riversdale Estate. The region is particularly celebrated for its pinot noir, chardonnay and sparkling wines, along with locally produced cheese, chocolate, berries, honey and seasonal fruit.

After a day exploring, enjoy lunch at a vineyard, settle in for a cosy meal at one of Richmond’s restaurants, take a picnic to the Village Green or return to Baker’s Cottage for a BBQ in the garden. With history, food and wine experiences close by, Richmond is an ideal base for discovering the Coal River Valley and Southern Tasmania.
