Check in process was smooth, Siobhan is an effective communicator. Suite 6 was awesome, lots of room for our family of 4. Loved the little fridge/freezer and big sink. Only thing was the hot water, or lack thereof. It was a crapshoot. First night: barely warm showers. Second night: hot showers eventually. Next morning: cold cold cold shower, no hot water at all. Third night: warm showers.

No TVs in the room made it easy to spend all day in the ocean which is conveniently located very close to the property. The staff were very chill and incredibly friendly. The beds were so comfy and the a/cs worked like a dream for relaxing after a long day of exploring and swimming. Definitely a return customer for life.

This is a property well suited for campers and backpackers, who seem to be their target clientele. It offers yard space for pitching a tent, plus outdoor showers and toilets for them. I had a one bedroom suite with living room, kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom. Very clean but dated furnishings and decor. Not even a single TV in the place. Never encountered that before. And very limited amenities in the bathroom. No facial tissues, one tiny bar of soap that disintegrated the first shower, left me using liquid hand soap to shower with the second day, and I ran out of toilet paper. At check-in, I was told the trash would be removed from my room daily. That didn’t happen for me. My biggest issue is location. There is nothing to walk to from the property except a seaside park. Shopping and dining are a ride away. Unless you’re fine walking a couple miles to go eat.

Mike was a great host and gave us easy ideas about entertaining kids. Also directions to find food and other services nearby. The place is like a dormitory, no frills, but everything you need for preparing you own food and getting a good nights rest. It’s an older lodge but everything was sparkling clean and well-maintained. I’d recommend it to friends.

Great Stay

Had a great visit. Everyone is particularly helpful. Met with Mr. Arnott and he was very accommodating and friendly. The staff are really good if you need any extra soap or supplies. It used to be a hostel but has now turned into a hotel and it’s very amenable to all of the local events and facilities.

Arnott's Lodge was a good place to spend the night. We were not at the hotel long as we had a start gazing tour and returned late and woke early in the morning for sunrise and then drive back to Kona.

Tired, Mildewy Place with Some Good Qualities

Arnott's Lodge is old and in desperate need of updating. I would say that it is comfortable enough. The beds and pillows were comfortable, the A/C worked in the bedrooms (but none in the community areas), the bath and shower were okay, but didn't like the shower head. The check-in guy was super nice. However, there were some negatives that I would say overshadow the positives. First, it smelled of mildew all throughout. Second, we ran across several roaches, including in the beds. Third, there was one bed in the living room, but no A/C for the living room, so the person who slept in the living room was the only one without air conditioning. Fourth, our room was located in the corner, right next to the neighbors who had some kind of bird sanctuary, and the birds never shut up, even at night. This affected the person sleeping in the living room and the people sleeping in the back bedroom.
