One thing that immediately stands out about Academy Plaza Hotel is the location. It’s easy to walk everywhere from the property. We had a bus tour outside Dublin and our meeting point was literally 4 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Another aspect that stands out and it was a huge surprise is the breakfast. They serve a great variety of options for all tastes. On top of that, it costs around 14 euros. However, if the guest buys the breakfast the day before on the front desk they will pay 12.50 euros. In any coffee shop around, 12.50 euros wouldn’t pay for more than one cup of coffee and one pastry. Trust me. Another highlight for me was the staff. The front desk team was spot on in all the information they provided and the restaurant team was impeccable. I would definitely stay there again if I had a chance.

Room was comfortable, as we arrived early morning, we were able to leave our bags in a secure room. Hotel is located on a side street off O'Connell Street, where there are a several eating places and shopping. A short walk will take you to the bridges across the Liffey to visit Trinity College, St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Temple Bar, etc. Close to local buses, etc. 20-30 minutes to the airport by taxi.

I picked this hotel because of its location, price, and room arrangement. The location is great. It is right around the corner from where most of the busses pick you up and drop you off for the airport and tours. It is walkable to the river and if you're in shape, it's walkable to the Temple Bar area and most of the tourist spots. We are a family of 5 adults and I was able to get a room for my husband and I and a room with 3 beds for my kids so they could each have their own bed. The rooms were clean as were all areas of the hotel. They did allow us to check into one of our rooms really early too. The only down sides were that we were there during a heat wave and the air conditioner shut off in the middle of the night and our bed was uncomfortable. I could feel the springs. It was fine for the 4 nights we were there.

Shower unusable and loud night club at rear

Room itself was fine but the shower door had been hung the wrong way around (assumed just have been recently repaired) meaning it was impossible to get into the shower (I’m not a large person - I think even the leanest person would have struggled). The room (606) also backed on to a rear of the building where a very loud nightclub/ bar operates until at least 2/3am on a Saturday night. I reported the shower issue and the staff were very courteous and grateful for the feedback - no offer of any compensation at all though for what was an expensive (€160-ish) room.

There was no air conditioning and one fan for a family of 4. We were sweating so bad and it was like a sauna. Had to request an additional fan which didn’t really help. Had a hard time sleeping because of the heat, finally fell asleep around 1am and was awoken at 7am by an alarm blaring on the 2nd floor. Went off for like 15 min. Terrible stay and sooooo expensive.
