Recommends to traveler with more budget
A riverside hotel with roomy japanese style suite, great for family travel or a group of friends. Although the reception can only speak a little English, they are very helpful.

Ryokan by the river
I was expecting a lot from this place as I paid a lot of money. It was peak cherry blossom season and I think the price of the room must have exponentially increased due to demand. The place was ok. It's an old building, and I found the fixtures flawed. The ceiling to the bathroom leaked water and left a puddle on the floor! But the room was spacious and the staff were very apologetic and accomodating. In terms of location, it's abit out the way. Nice if you like abit of quiet, not nice if you have to drag your suitcase from the station to there. It's right next to the river Uji, unfortunately there were construction work going on right next to us during our stay. Uji is worth visiting though, and if it was not for my accomodation being situated there, I would have overlooked this little gem.

Good hotel but over-priced for what you get
This was a nice hotel that was a cross between a Japanese-style ryokan and a western hotel. It had the best of both. Although we quite enjoyed our stay here, I don't think it was worth the high price. The hotel was clean, well-maintained, and located within walking distance of everything important in Uji. They provided a nice 6-course dinner with Japanese dishes (and charged extra for the drink) and also a Japanese breakfast, although the quality/taste of the food was not as great as we've had in restaurants. The staff were polite and helpful but spoke almost no English unlike all the other hotels we stayed in on our trip. We were unable to figure out what food we were being served and how to properly eat it. The public bath they have is decent although not a true "hot spring" - it's more of a giant jacuzzi. Overall it was a good hotel but not worth the C$400 we paid for the one night.

very nice city , Uji
Hotel located along Uji river which is so beautiful. The hotel staffs are so nice take very good care to all of us. That was one of the things to remember. One if the staff drove us to Uji station and my friends forgot her handbag at the hotel, so he drove her back and send her at the station again.

Peace and tranquility outside of Kyoto
The staff was extremely friendly. The setting with the view over the river unbeatable. The mats relatively comfortable. Better than in some of the other hotels, but if you aren't used to it, it takes adjustment. The hardest part for a westerner is the breakfast, because it is hard to know what you are eating (especially if you have a vegetarian in the group) and it is not obvious how to put together the various ingredients they bring you. Nobody explains this to you. I do not expect them to give a western breakfast. I enjoy learning about the culture. But I feel like I didn't learn anything because even when I asked how to eat it, their English was extremely limited and it wasn't clear what to do. So I wish I could have communicated better with the staff to learn more from the experience. The onsen baths were wonderful. Very clean and relaxing. The town itself is a jewel, with beautiful, uncrowded temples hidden in the hills.

Ryokan in a lovely setting!
While not much from the outside, this is a charming ryokan in the cute Kyoto suburb of Uji. I was originally upset that we weren't staying right in Kyoto, but this was soooo much better than staying downtown. Uji has a train station, which puts you into Kyoto in 18 minutes. You can walk into Uji and have a great dinner, and a lovely tea ceremony and a walk through an incredible shrine a few steps from Seizansou. And, it's right on the river, so from the bath, you can see cherry trees in bloom. Don't miss the Japanese breakfast - that was probably my favorite part of the whole experience. A bit old, but charming. Bring your own travel pillow if you don't care for the traditional Japanese buckwheat pillows.

We were very disappointed to be informed by the hotel that all indoor and outdoor onsen were completely closed. We were not informed at all upon the booking or else, before our check in date. If we knew the onsen were closed, we could have look for an alternative. When we asked for an explanation from the reception staff about the closing of onsen, his explanation came to be shockingly offensive, he said because we had booked for “a cheap price ’
