This Hawaiian-style beach house has it all!
Views of the ocean and 3 min walk to the beach. This house is two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious layout with a large eat-in kitchen, a great room, a dining room, a living room with a fireplace. This house is ideal for family get-togethers. This stylish cottage beach house has new appliances. The great room walks out onto a split-level deck. Have dinner on the upper porch with a view of the ocean and lagoon. The lagoon offers wonderful bird watching events every season. The lower deck has a BBQ and a fire pit to enjoy with family and friends.

The location of this house is just one block from the beach. Santa Maria’s(21st ave) is one of the most beautiful beaches in Santa Cruz, surfing, boogie boarding, skimboarding, fishing, and great for long walks. Explore the tide pools to find sea anemones, sea urchins and watch the otters play. This location is close to the fun-filled Santa Cruz. Boardwalk, the famous surfing spot Pleasure Point, and 41st Ave, where you will find various shops and restaurants. Minutes from Capitola Beach and the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor, where you will find beach volleyball, kayaks rentals, and great restaurants.

An ideal morning is walking to coffee ( Starbucks ) and then another 4 minutes to the beach to enjoy your coffee while watching the waves crash onto the beach and cliffs below. ( Sunny Cove )

Within an hour's drive, you can see the full beauty of Monterey Bay by taking its scenic drive to Carmel, Seventeen Mile Drive, Pebble Beach Golf Course, and the Monterey Bay aquarium. Between our house and Monteray is Moss Landing, another fantastic area for kayaking and exploring the ocean wildlife.

Amenities include high-speed WiFi for work-from-home guests. A full gourmet kitchen, fireplace, plasma TV with VCR/ DVD player, gas BBQ, outdoor gas fire pit, washer and dryer, linens, down comforters, feather pillows, and towels, both beach and bath towels. A security deposit and cleaning charge are required. This is a self-check in-house.
Sleeps 6 - 8 One queen-size bed, one bunk bed with double-size mattresses, and 2 sofa beds.


Summer months, the house is available from Saturday to Saturday.

Must be 25 years of age to rent our home.

Absolutely NO PETS. Any remnants of pets will be brought to VRBO attention.

Annual Mother’s Day trek to Santa Cruz to see family

Couldn't be happier with our amazing long mother's day weekend at Hale Kai; the amazing location, setting and proximity to the beach, trails and amenities. Walking distance to restaurants... (highly recommend Lago De Como). Hale Kai has a very special vibe to it, quite chill and very inviting, the floor plan worked beautifully for us and our Santa Cruz family who found this to be the spot to hub out of for surfing, biking and beach walks. generous living and gathering spaces both in and outside. The outside decks and viewing veranda was definitely the party favorite and we all enjoyed a few meals al fresca with the view of the bay and sound of the surf. The full moon topped it all off making the entire journey quite magical, Aloha and Mahalo to our hosts.

The house was beautiful and in a great location. There were 5 of us staying and the house offered something for everyone. Looking out to the ocean evey morning and evening was the best. We had evrrything we needed plus some. Highly recommend.

what a lovely little place...secret hidden gem for sure...absolutely loved the layout and the decor...instantly felt at home...tip - back into the driveway and it'll be easy peasy to pull out when you leave...the deck was amazing and the fire pit a plus...even laid out on the deck to get some sun privately...you have such great views and you are concealed from outside eyes...kitchen was large and had all the tools you'd need and more...we never used the dining room but it was spacious for large family meals for sure...its was a little oasis tucked behind a wall of greenery that was just heaven...easy walk down to the beach if you so desired...loved the mudd room and the electronic keyless entry...cant say enough great things about this property...

Great house, Great Location

We loved our time at this house! The decor and furnishings were just perfect, homey, and cozy! Having a washer and dryer was a huge bonus! They thought of everything! The view out the back windows, the outside decks were beautiful! The decks could’ve used a little pressure washing but still beautiful nonetheless. Backing out of the driveway onto the main road was somewhat tricky at times but nothing can be done about that. The proximity to the beach and everything else was great! Overall, loved it and would stay here again!

Cozy Retreat Feel

I booked my family and I this VRBO for a place to all stay together for my brother’s wedding. There were 6 of us and my 4 year old niece. It was everything advertised! Beautiful views from the patio, gorgeous walk to the beach, and walking distance to a Starbucks, which we appreciated. Although, there is a coffee machine in home as well! It was a perfect place to have meals together and get ready for my brothers wedding, and not a far drive to Los Gatos. My only feedback- the pull out beds are more of a full size bed instead of a queen, so if you plan to have people sleep on them, you may want to account for one adult on the pull out bed instead of two. The couch was comfy, so I slept there while my husband took the pull out! Host was very responsive and helpful, and there are tons of board games/coloring supplies for kiddos!

Wow! Spectacular home with every convenience

Not enough room for all the stars I’d give this rental. Comfy clean and spacious; as good or better than the pictures. Every item you would ever need in the kitchen, every item you would ever need for your time on the beach. Deck area is spectacular, close to the beach great views. Parking! Yes! Fabulous location, deferred maintenance

Our family stayed for just under a week at this property. We enjoyed our visit but would likely not return to this property. Great: Location, with a view of the lagoon and beach, lovely outdoor dining area and sitting area with a firepit to sit at night. Good: The host was communicative, outdoor grill, nice assortment of beach chairs, body boards, and family games were provided. Bad: Showers leaked, obvious long-term rental with a lot of deferred maintenance (e.g., bathroom stair detached, hole in wall) stained sheets and towels, debris under couches and beds, etc. The patio door looking out over the lagoon was lovely to keep open, but there was no screen, so bugs would fly in starting around 4 p.m. Ugly: Ventilation fans did not appear to work, mustiness spell permeated the rental, mold in several areas, especially bathrooms. As a result of the mustiness, we ended up leaving a day early.

Relaxing getaway!

Our family enjoyed the open space within the home. The beds and couches were very comfortable. The atmosphere was relaxing and the beach was a 4 minute walk, which was perfect. We appreciated use of the beach chairs and beach toys.

Beautiful clean home close to the beach

This property was very well set up, comfortable and was very clean. The little one really liked the front and back yards. We all enjoyed the short walk to the beach at Corcoran Lagoon. Within walking distance to some restaurants and grocery stores. In inclement weather, there were lots of movies and books. Very easy to work with the owners, who were very responsive to our questions. Highly recommended!

A wonderful week stay at "Hale Kai"

We came to stay at Hale Kai just a few days after all the big storms that had hit Santa Cruz this January 2023. I was coming from the East Coast to see my son and daughter in law and meet my new granddaughter for the first time. Lori kept us up to date on how their place was doing during the storm. Hale Kai was not affected even though it is so close to the beach. I knew we were just coming to visit and spend time together. Being originally from Santa Cruz, we didn't need to do any real sight seeing. The house was darling. Made you feel like you were staying in a Sweet Hawaiian Bungalow. The house is furnished beautifully with lots of Hawaiian furniture and memorabilia. There is a fireplace that works in the living room, but we chose to spend most of our time in the family room right off the kitchen. For a rental. this house had just about everything you need to cook in style. I was very impressed by the great assortment of everything you need to make a gourmet meal. The dining table in the formal dining room easily fits 8-10 for sit down dinner or there is the sit up center bar with stools in the kitchen. The bathrooms were filled with everything one might need in case you forgot something. I would love to go back and use their back patio and gas fire area when the weather is better. There is an awesome beach and ocean view from the family room and also on the upper deck seating outside area. I can't say enough good things about Hale Kai. I look forward to staying again in the future. We had just a wonderful, relaxing time with the 4 of us. I can't wait to rock my baby girl on the front porch in the big rockers surrounding the lush hawaiian gardens the next time we come. This is one of those precious gems that you want to keep to yourself and not share how wonderful it is, but I just can't. Great job Lori on the fine communication and Beautiful Home. California Homecoming!

We really loved this house and it’s location. You can walk to the beach. It’s a short drive to Capitola, Soquel, and other places. We brought my 88 year old Mom out for a reunion with our family, which included grand & great grandchildren. The house had plenty of outdoor room , as well as indoor. We would love to stay there again!
