The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The room was small but clean and well prepared. It was a pleasant stay at the hotel, and I would recommend it to travelers looking to explore San Juan.

I've stayed here twice, once on my own waiting for a morning flight to the BVI in 2024 and again with my wife in February 2026 for 2 nights at the begining of our trip around Puerto Rico. I don't think the bad reviews I've read are deserved. This is a more budget freindly option in the same great location as some of the premium hotels. The location is fantastic with a lot of dining and entertainment options within walking distance. It's also a short inexpensive Uber ride to Old San Juan with a lot to do and see there. Canario staff were freindly and accomodating. Daniel who checked us in and got us in our room before regular check in time had several suggestions for places to get a great seafood dinner. The rooms are smaller than your typical chain but when we visit we don't spend a lot of time in our room. But the room did have everything you need as well as a shared kitchen you could use where there was hot coffee in the morning and a really nice quite courtyard to enjoy in the morning and at the end of the day. This will be our go to in San Juan.

Staff was ok. Rm very small. Bathroom only 1 person at a time. Floor was horrible. Just good enough for a 1 day stay but not to have a romantic stay. Bed good enough for 2 slim people. Overall place is close enough to restaurants and hanging out walking distance. Be careful with parking do valet. We paid almost 80$ next day in parking bill.

Staff was awesome, place is nice and cozy. Just know your expectations and what you’re getting. Good value for what/where you’re staying. My room was ok for me (single traveler), two people would have been kind of small, room/bathroom were clean but on the small side especially shower area, I’m 5’10” 210lbs and it was on the small side. All was ok but biggest issue was my room mini fridge did not work, it was replaced on 2day and was also not working. They do plan on replacing it but that was after my visit so didn’t have a cooler during my entire stay. They did offer use of their downstairs unit but kinda hard to go up and down to pull items/drinks outside of your room. Again the staff was great but had to give honest review. Thanks

We got there at about 7:00 pm. ( I let them know what time)No one there. Sign on door to call ( answering machine). Or walk to sister hotel with all of our luggage. We walked until we found it and employee walked us back. At least a 1/2 dozen people waiting to check in and she checked them in 1 st. No outlets in bathroom. It says pool ,but we did not see one

Quaint, older boutique hotel in a vibrant neighborhood. Small but served our purpose for 1 short night before a cruise. Very clean and comfortable. Got in late so needed to call the phone number to be let in, but helpful staff. Hot room, wish the AC had been turned on, we needed to figure it out. Found out in the morning that they have an adorable outdoor atrium and a kitchenette with fresh coffee and a water cooler. Safe, locked front door, could leave our luggage in the lobby until we were ready to leave for the ship.

I am giving Canario 5 stars because I love the imperfection and quirkiness of a small inn in an old property hosted by lovely people who are personable and caring. That is what you will find at Canario. Is it perfect and new? No. But it is clean, comfortable and safe, in a great location, and it is reasonably priced as well. Friendly and helpful staff, very comfortable bed, good coffee and filtered water in the communal kitchen. Would definitely stay here again. Great food and drinks at Burrito Social just up the street!

The room was tiny, not clean, very dark! We were there 4 nights and not once did housekeeping come in except to leave 2 extra towels and did not take the dirty ones The very worst part of the stay was that we were told not to flush the toilet paper yet the garbage can was never emptied, we had to do it ourselves by dumping in the courtyard garbage, absolutely disgusting!!! Do not waste your money on this property or their other property, Casa del Caribe, we stayed in both and both were beyond terrible! I have stayed in 100s of hotels and these two are on the top worst!

Everything 1) Staff too busy talking with friends and ignored customers 2) check in took 45 minutes with only 2 people in front of me 3) Pictures very misleading....is really an old, rundown budget hotel 4) extremely noisy....little traffic on the street during the day (it was a Sunday), but at about 5 PM the street was bumper-to- bumper for hours with many noisy cars/trucks with loud exhausts and groups of very loud motorcycles cruising the street until 11:30 PM.......then the roosters started crowing at 3:25 AM 5) bathroom was tiny and cramped, and water in shower took more than 10 minutes running to get hot...and we had a larger bathroom on the cruise ship we just got off (and it was tiny) 6) and we paid for an upgraded room, and it was still bad.....Doors didn't fit and were squeaky when opened and floor corners and edges were very dirty

I think the hotel was good for what I used it for, A place to sleep & shower. I did the standard room, it was tiny for a solo traveler, can’t imagine it with another person. The shower water would go from hot to very hot, annoying but manageable. Room was clean. Shower was clean. AC was strong. The front desk were friendly and offered advice when asked. Great location. They provided beach towels and you have access to their sister hotels pool. They have a water filter in the common kitchen area & offer free coffee in the morning. Based on location, I would go back.

The location, affordability, and overall condition of this boutique hotel on Condado Beach are all awesome. The room decor was nice, but there are some areas to improve. There were no storage or shelving options in the bathroom for personal items. We had to go downstairs twice to get a working physical key for the room. However, the air conditioning was great and made the room temperature very comfortable. The main issues we had during our recent two nights day in January 2026 pertain to the non-functioning smart TV (it never connected to the Internet and we never received assistance to fix it), toilet issues which thankfully resolved themselves, but which were never addressed directly by staff, and overall low water pressure. The staff in all other respects were welcoming and helpful, and we will definitely stay at The Canario again. Just hope they continue on upgrading their offerings when possible. Thank you.
