If Starbucks bought up Microtel
I felt like a victim of profit motive from the moment I walked-in the door. Aloft is like if Starbucks got into the hotel biz. Not missing a single opportunity they simply price their airplane food breakfast sandwiches twice what they are in stores. Your room? It seems as Starbucks bought up Microtel then added new tile, counterintuitive lighting, ugly veneer furniture and shorter beds. When you leave your micro room to go to the "fun" lobby you use a key card (why?). After traversing a long hallway to get to soulless lounge, everything is for sale, even more airplane food. It's like the flight never ends. It's not good. You can do better for the money and btw relaxation leads to real energized states, not shopping and loud business calls in the lobby with a pretense of fun. At some point customers know it's bs marketing, no matter how many times they read "splash pool". Staying there can cause one to reflect on the values of corporate America where profit steamrolls real human needs with marketed desires. When hearing airplanes overhead it made me wonder if others wished their next flight was out of corporate America, maybe to another galaxy. One thing I enjoyed was outside. A block away there's a water front and walking path, oddly, with a Starbucks in the Hilton and only regular inflated sandwich prices and a view of the water.

Staying near the airport for a late arrival and early departure is important to us. We reserved a room at another hotel and found it to be mediocre for the late arrival stay. For our early departure we looked for another hotel that would meet our needs and Aloft at SFO airport met it with flying colors. Airport shuttle, clean/spacious rooms, bar lounge with live music, snack area and close proximity to restaurants.
