The rooms are modest (though dark) but comfortable, and small details have been attended to - room has a steamer, plenty of towels, niches near the tub for your toiletries, adequate lighting sources inside, a long mirror in the room, adequate space for coffee paraphernalia. However, the "closet" has no shelves and is open, there are no shelves around the bathroom sink to even place your toothbrush, etc. The Nespresso machine has layers of embedded dust! Though Yavapai welcomed us warmly via texts, when we actually turned up reception staff appeared taciturn (no smiles!) and weren't informative. They're good people that finally assisted us, but the tone did not match the welcome messages. Needless to say, prices were dropping significantly from the day I booked, always a mood lifter. Firstly, remember this is a motel. I don't like traveling thousands of miles and landing up in a motel. Which is poorly designed. The regular sized window looks onto a parking lot and thus shades have to be drawn. A very small window looks onto the woods but you will have to stand in front of the bathroom. Really! Does anyone go to Grand Canyon National Park to look out to a parking lot or sit in a room with shades closed as in a cell? And of course, its nowhere near the rim. Bright Angel Lodge - priced about the same, on the rim and in Grand Canyon Village is a better and more iconic option.
