Accommodation In Denver
Is your head spinning a little? That might be the altitude in the “Mile-High City,” or perhaps Denver’s love of breweries. You’ll find more beer by volume in Denver than any other city in the United States.
Denver residents do love their brew, but they are also sophisticated. You’ll find bike lanes throughout the city as well as many excellent parks and museums. The Rocky Mountains are just 19 km from town, so you can say, “good morning” to them from the window of your Denver accommodation.
Things to do in Denver
You can find a lot to do in this large city. Every neighbourhood has its own distinct personality, so don’t be afraid to do a little unplanned exploring. One of the most popular destinations during Denver holidays is City Park. This 300-acre urban park gives you relaxing paths, two gorgeous lakes and even a golf course! The Denver Zoo and Museum of Nature and Science are also in City Park, both great options for nature-lovers.
If you aren’t quite willing to sleep once the sun goes down, you’ll find that Denver has a lively nightlife. The vestiges of the city’s Wild West past haven’t completely left its menus. Dig up a little of that cowboy spirit and try some rattlesnake, buffalo or Rocky Mountain oysters (note: these aren’t oysters!).
Getting to & Around Denver
Touchdown at Denver International Airport (DEN), just 29 km northeast of downtown and many hotels in Denver. Denver does offer some public transportation, but this is really a car town. If you plan on going outside of the downtown area, you’ll save yourself a lot of hassle with a rental car from Wotif.
You won’t have to hit up Denver’s famously numerous pubs to drown your sorrows over paying too much for your holiday; not if you use Wotif to compare prices on Denver hotels, flights and car hire deals. With the money you save, you can order Rocky Mountain oysters for your entire group!
Things to do
Denver is full of interesting and fun activities both for kids and adults. Love museums and culture? Explore the mysteries of the universe at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Check out galleries like the Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art and the Clyfford Still Museum. Catch a show or a live band at one of Denver’s theatres.
If you need a thrill, take a spin on a rollercoaster at Elitch Gardens Theme Park.
Are you a sports fan? Then watch the famous Denver Broncos play a game on their home turf, the Sports Authority Field at Mile High stadium. But get in quick – every home game since 1970 has sold out!
Don’t forget to chill out in the Denver Botanic Gardens, a garden with heaps of Rocky Mountains native plants. You might recognise it from Woody Allen’s movie Sleeper.
Shopping and dining
Cherry Creek is the sweet spot for shopping in Denver. It has Cherry Creek North, a district on Milwaukee Street full of independent shops and boutiques, and The Cherry Creek Shopping Centre, the place for big name brands. But there’s great shopping in several parts of this city. Larimer Square has the latest offerings from the runways of New York and Paris, and 16th Street Mall is a tree-lined pedestrian-only promenade.
On top of its cool bars offering things like cocktails, cocktails and craft beer, Denver has many must-try restaurants with fresh locally-grown food and cosy atmospheres. One of Denver’s most interesting restaurants has to be Downtown Aquarium, where you can have a meal surrounded by a 150,000-gallon tank of marine life and coral.
