Things to Do in Charleston

To understand Charleston, you’ll need to learn a little of its history. Start in the pedestrian-friendly historic district at the Cooper Riverfront. Better yet, hop in an old-timey carriage or take a walking tour. You have dozens of different tours to choose from, including pub tours, Civil War tours, architecture tours and even ghost tours!

Does your brother need his very own eel skin wallet? Of course he does! Visit Market Street, where vendors have hawked their wares for hundreds of years. You’ll find lots of the normal knickknacks and a few treasures as well. This is also a great place to sample Charleston’s famous seafood cuisine (she-crab soup, yum!).

If all that walking has worn you out, don’t head back to your accommodation in Charleston quite yet. Grab some real estate at one of the many beaches on the edge of town, including Folly Beach and Sullivan’s Island, for a little R&R.

Getting to & Around Charleston

Charleston International Airport, (CHS) is about 20 km from downtown and most Charleston hotels. Once you land, you’ll need to decide how to make your way downtown. Horse-drawn carriages are a stylish way to go, but if you want something with more than, say, two horsepower, consider a taxi or a car rental.
