This property was filthy and felt very unsafe. I didn't stay despite knowing I wouldn't get a refund. Stay away. I recommend Expedia remove this property from their listings.

Within walking distance to most everything you need... the beach, shopping, park, restaurants, gift shops and more! I had a quaint, cozy room with a kitchenette on the secluded second floor, which I loved! It's a no-frills kind of place, but it is also dirt cheap by CA motel standards. I would recommend buying a new comforter for the bed (which cannot cost much at all) to replace the one which, though beautiful in color, has seen better days. That small criticism would not keep me from staying there again, though. But, I'd want that same room (#122) !

Dirty cigarette burns in bedding and bathroom trays. No place to hang clothing. No houskeeping unless you’re in your room. No extra or new towels after housekeeping leaves early afternoon. Rude front desk got hung up on.

The pictures online looked fine, but once we got there the room was grimy. There were stains and holes in the comforter. One of the pillow cases had a yellowish/brown stain. The bathroom towel rack was covered in rust. The door to our room was difficult to lock. There were several cosmetic defects which I could have overlooked such as dents/scuffs all over walls and furniture. Due to the actual dirtiness, we ultimately left a few minutes after checking in and booked another room somewhere else. I've never done that before. It was a bummer to be out the money for the room, but we were just not comfortable staying there.

There is a reason

This is a motel and there is a reason it is the cheapest option so close to the beach and downtown. The staff were friendly and the motel was quiet. The nature of the area and the price do attract some odd people, but there were no issues. If you simply need a place to sleep and want to be walking distance to the shops and beaches of Carlsbad and Oceanside, the Scandia Motel is well situated. It's not glamourous but it suits it's purpose, and you're probably not visiting Carlsbad to sit in your room anyway.

Property was small and quiet. Rooms were very clean and recently remodeled. Checking in was simple. I was easily able to book daily until my house was ready to move in. I was able to rest and not be stressed because this property was very safe.

Friendly manager at the front desk explained at my check in I got thr last room avail. No singles left so I get 2 beds. I only pay the single bed rate I reserved. Several people that stayed here before told me about how nicely furnished with great room prices, on a bus route, walking distance to the beach, Carlsbad Village train depot & bus stop, every Wed. afternoon The Farmers Market on State Street, walking distance for all of Carlsbad Village spots in the “Who Do You Love?” Oct 17, 2024 edition of The North County Best of 2024 Reader. It rained almost half of my stay. The housekeepers were quiet working. No slamming doors like other places. Plenty of hot water pressure for a shower not common in San Diego County. There are many nice extras. ie. a padded seat shoe bench to sit on putting on/taking off shoes with shoe storage below it. No paper thin towels. Clean & white with no stains. It appears having been renovated not long ago. I strongly recommend the Scandia Motel giving it a 5 out of 5 stars for being small, a friendly staff, not a chain motel and for its great location. Neutral on people staying/sleeping in their cars mostly backed in facing the front of my room/the far back rear of lot back of car against fence of practice field building. Some left in the mornings, some never left & were always looking every time I opened my room door leaving/returning & my car, too. They sat watching me & other guests staying in rooms around me as if we were the entertainment!
