The property has a major issue with hot water and their faucets are in disrepair as well as their mini split heating and cooling systems. This made it difficult to take a hot shower during my entire stay, wash hands effectively and I went to bed freezing cold because their mini splits were dysfunctional. Water didn't stream properly from their bathroom sink faucets making handwashing difficult, also with only cold water. These are basic maintenance issues that a hotellier should manage, and they know about them but haven't fixed them. Staff seem frustrated with the ussues also but had no answers except to guide guests through the tricks of working through these old systems they had learned. But no one wants to deal with that on vacation. Also, the problems with this property are serious health and safety issues and they need to be taken seriously.

Amazing view

The view from our room, 303, is amazing. The staff is friendly and the shuttle is exceptionally convenient. We would walk to town and then call for pickup when ready to return to the hotel. The breakfast was adequate although nothing was really hot except the coffee. Strongly suggest going to the rooftop deck and enjoying a beverage or picnic at sunset. While the sun sets on the other side of the mountain so you can’t really see, it is so peaceful and beautiful up there.

We stayed for a weekend (Fri - Sun) during February (off-season). First the areas of opportunity for improvement: the hot water in the shower can take up to five minutes to start getting hot, there was a small piece of wood that was loose in our room that divides the bedroom to the bathroom when that came off there were some exposed nails, the chairs in the balcony could've used a cleaning, the dairy, in the breakfast was questionable as my coffee had curds when I put in some half-and-half... I used the coffee mate packs instead, I know the hotel went through a recent remodel, but it seems like things were still kind of missing like there was a door missing between our hallway and the external side of the hotel and there are stairs that lead to a road and anybody can come and go through those stairs into the property. The safe in our room did not work. It looked like it had been drilled and there was a screw missing in it. There was a lamp on only one side of the bed. It would've been nice to have one on the other. On the positive side the front staff is extremely courteous and friendly. They deserve an A . The hotel is nice and you cannot beat the views of Avalon. Aside from the dairy issue, breakfast is actually pretty decent. We especially like the complementary transportation to and from downtown Avalon, although we did feel kind of bad requesting it so often. And aside from the issues in the room, the bed is comfortable. The room is nice and very spacious.

The staff goes above and beyond. Love this place and although it was our first time in Catalina, we will always go back to stay at Zane Grey! Great views! Comfortable beds! Easy access to town via short walk or they provide a golf cart service.

Beautiful property, wonderful view, cute cozy and clean room with a beautiful view. Great Breakfast in the morning and they will golf cart you into town and pick you up. Also from the boat when you arrive and depart. They were all very kind and hospitable. We loved our little mini vacation.

Deferred maintenance needs to be addressed

Hot water was not working in the unit we were staying in (Unit 101) even after hotel front desk reset the water heater. There was no maintenance tech available to repair or address the issue. Water for the double sink vanity, bathtub, and shower was ice cold (although temporarily warm after the reset) for the entire night. Weather was cold as well which did not help - only 1 of the 2 ptac units worked when trying turning up the temperature. Front desk offered the next vacant unit’s shower to use, but at that point, the entire situation became an inconvenience and we decided to check out early the following day.

Great weekend in Catalina Coming Back For Sure

Came out to the island for the 50k ultra marathon. picked this hotel because quite frankly it was all that was left race weekend and a little more than i wanted to spend. that said, the room was super clean, the free breakfast was excellent,and the room had everything i needed including bath robes and slippers. also extremely quite. apparently downtown this was a real issue because the first race started at 4 and 5 am at the center of town. also friends who stayed downtown said they could hear people in the next room. my daughter and i were in the penthouse and did not hear a thing. the only downside was not hot tub and no bath tub which i would have like after doing a 50k. also the hotel us on a hill so you either have to walk or get a golf cart ride. this was never an issue. we were able to get rides when ever we needed them. staff was on the young side but professional and friendly.
