Best Western Plus Hovell Tree Inn

Cnr Hovell Street and Wodonga Place, South Albury - Map
Fantastic location and modern clean rooms. The only thing I'd say negative was that we had a two bedroom apartment and there were no windows in the kitchen. You needed to put lights on during day. The bedrooms however were bright and airy and lovely large windows.

"Nice hotel in a gorgeous historic building"
This is the second time we have stayed in this hotel. The first time without hitch but this time not so lucky. When we arrived a car had been broken into while parked in the 'not so secure' secure parking. after asking some question & looking around the car park itself it became evident that the security CCTV did not cover the whole carpark and the only carparks left for us to park in were in the 'dead zone'. We stayed over a weekend Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights. Unfortunately hotel services missed cleaning our room on Saturday & since we were out all day we were not aware until the evening. On Sunday when our room was agin not cleaned we were informed that they dont provide room cleaning on Sundays & politely apologised for Saturdays oversite. They did however offer to top up anything we needed. The shower trap was also not secure and lifted away on its own accord revealing an open pipe. Having said all that, the staff were polite and helpful & ovewrall the rooms are well appointed and comfotable. The wifi was also very reliable which is rare in multi story hotels.

    Accommodation In Albury

Whether it’s a fishing weekend or just a relaxing escape, Albury is an ideal place for a getaway. This small city in NSW sits on the banks of the Murray River, across the water from its twin city Wodonga, and has all kinds of activities, ranging from Murray cod fishing to cycling and hiking to local art and culture. Take a look at our full range of Albury hotels and you’ll have two charming regional destinations to explore in the region where NSW meets Victoria.

The Wiradjuri people are Albury’s traditional owners. In 1893, the Federation Fathers held a meeting at the courthouse in nearby Corowa to propose the Federation of Australia. Albury has a number of heritage-listed buildings, like the Soden’s Hotel bar – which opened in 1857 and is still open for business today – as well as the classically Italian-style Albury Railway Station.

    Things to do

On the banks of the Murray River, there’s a shaded walking trail and parklands perfect for BBQs and picnics. Throw a line into the Murray or explore the river by canoe or kayak. Take a trip to Wonga Wetlands, which has over 80 hectares of flood plains, decorated with centuries old river red gums. Walk around the lakes and billabongs and watch for birds. Just a 20-minute drive from Albury, Lake Hume is a beautiful massive tree-lined dam with even more fishing, as well as water sports like jet skiing and windsurfing.

In town, you’ll find the Albury Art Gallery, which is due to open mid-2015, the Albury Botanic Gardens, with its life-sized dinosaur sculpture, and the Albury Library Museum.

For a great night out, visit Albury Entertainment Centre, where you can see live music, stand-up comedy and Shakespearean plays. Follow it up by dancing the night away at an Albury nightclub.

While you’re here, be sure to visit Wodonga. It has cultural activities like The Cube and Art Space, as well as Sumsion Gardens, with its lagoon and walking tracks.

    Shopping and dining

Albury has some interesting boutique shops where you can buy things like Buddhist trinkets, teddy bears and honey. If you’re looking for a mall, you can check out Centro Albury or the local Myer Centrepoint. Albury and Wodonga’s dining options include all kinds of international food, from Thai to Indian to Mexican, as well as pizza joints, steak houses and modern cafes.

    Getting here

Book one of our flights to Albury and you’ll be on your way. Pick your Albury accommodation with us and even if you don’t catch a fish, you’ll have more cash in your pocket to buy one.
