"Friendly staff, very handy to shops and restaurant"
Remembered the old Wool Store. Amazed at how well it has been renovated. we stayed for two nights, at either end of the week. Our first studio on the Monday night was mind-blowing and huge. On the Friday, a considerably smaller apartment was cosy and satisfied our needs just as well.

    Accommodation In Albury

Whether it’s a fishing weekend or just a relaxing escape, Albury is an ideal place for a getaway. This small city in NSW sits on the banks of the Murray River, across the water from its twin city Wodonga, and has all kinds of activities, ranging from Murray cod fishing to cycling and hiking to local art and culture. Take a look at our full range of Albury hotels and you’ll have two charming regional destinations to explore in the region where NSW meets Victoria.

    History

The Wiradjuri people are Albury’s traditional owners. In 1893, the Federation Fathers held a meeting at the courthouse in nearby Corowa to propose the Federation of Australia. Albury has a number of heritage-listed buildings, like the Soden’s Hotel bar – which opened in 1857 and is still open for business today – as well as the classically Italian-style Albury Railway Station.

    Things to do

On the banks of the Murray River, there’s a shaded walking trail and parklands perfect for BBQs and picnics. Throw a line into the Murray or explore the river by canoe or kayak. Take a trip to Wonga Wetlands, which has over 80 hectares of flood plains, decorated with centuries old river red gums. Walk around the lakes and billabongs and watch for birds. Just a 20-minute drive from Albury, Lake Hume is a beautiful massive tree-lined dam with even more fishing, as well as water sports like jet skiing and windsurfing.

In town, you’ll find the Albury Art Gallery, which is due to open mid-2015, the Albury Botanic Gardens, with its life-sized dinosaur sculpture, and the Albury Library Museum.

For a great night out, visit Albury Entertainment Centre, where you can see live music, stand-up comedy and Shakespearean plays. Follow it up by dancing the night away at an Albury nightclub.

While you’re here, be sure to visit Wodonga. It has cultural activities like The Cube and Art Space, as well as Sumsion Gardens, with its lagoon and walking tracks.

    Shopping and dining

Albury has some interesting boutique shops where you can buy things like Buddhist trinkets, teddy bears and honey. If you’re looking for a mall, you can check out Centro Albury or the local Myer Centrepoint. Albury and Wodonga’s dining options include all kinds of international food, from Thai to Indian to Mexican, as well as pizza joints, steak houses and modern cafes.

    Getting here

Book one of our flights to Albury and you’ll be on your way. Pick your Albury accommodation with us and even if you don’t catch a fish, you’ll have more cash in your pocket to buy one.
