Upon arrival, I was informed that my booked and paid for room was not available and was supposed to have been given an “upgraded” room instead. The room airconditioner didn’t work, was given a fan instead, flooded bathroom, toilet not flushing and blinking room lights. I was transferred to my originally booked room the following day, only to receive a call late afternoon that i will be transferred again for “upgrade”. This is uncalled for. I declined this moving of clients from one room to the other. Afterall, i deserve some rest. Likewise found begbug in the sofa set. This used to be my favorite hotel in Manila, but the experience made me think twice now. By the way, manager’s name who wanted us to transfer for second time was “lea”

The classiest hotel in Manila!
When you think of classy hotels around the world, you think of the Plaza Hotel in NYC, the Savoy in London, the Ritz in Paris and Raffles in Singapore - based on my experience, this hotel is on par with those other hotels. The moment you walk in the door, you are welcomed by a multitude of well dressed attendants looking to assist you. Anything you need, they will happily rush to deliver for you. I give kudos to whoever is in charge of maintaining the style and vibe of the hotel. The attention to detail from flowers to arrangement of decorations are impeccable! Just feels very opulent but not stuffy. Room was large and impeccably clean. Carpet may be getting a little worn but can’t complain about that if you get everything you need (including freebies for items you may need) and attendants providing turndown service whilst you step out for dinner. Breakfast selection was fabulous and plentiful. I also ate at the high end Chinese restaurant (welcome change after indulging in Filipino food during my stay) and had desert at the lobby restaurant (bibinka is a must try) - the food was terrific and ambience was decadent. All in, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this classy hotel. As Douglas MacArthur who lived at this hotel (ask to tour his renovated suite) famously said - “I shall return”!!

Beautiful, traditional hotel. In a good location, near to the walled city. Lovely pool area with swim up bar and happy hour! Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Historic property, good pool and gym. Very popular breakfast buffet. Very near the old fort and other tourist spots…but this is a developing country with all the poverty that comes with it. The hotel is super safe, but a large number of homeless in the surrounding area.
