The room was very nice ( I really liked the partitioning of the living room and bedroom). everything was in working order. The common areas were pleasant to walk through and flowing. The bar was expensive and so is the rest of the riverwalk.

Valet Issues

The hotel is nice and the beds and pillows are excellent quality. Our room (deluxe king suite) was very comfortable. However, getting our car to/from the valet service was a consistent issue. Dropping off the vehicle was a bit of a headache in that we’d inevitably have to wait in the street for cars to be cleared from the drop off area. That wasn’t so bad, but getting our vehicle from the valet never took less than 30 minutes, despite the valet advising us it would take 10. When we checked out on Saturday morning, we waited 45 minutes for our vehicle and it really did not seem that busy. The valets were very nice and were clearly working hard, so it seemed like a management issue. They really need to reevaluate their system and come up with a new plan. Or at least set realistic expectations for their guests so we can plan accordingly.

I’ll start with my positives. Staff was nice, room was a good size and location perfect for our night. Now here are our concerns. This was poorly advertised. The pictures went above and beyond, you don’t truly get what’s displayed unfortunately. We were expecting a lavish room, especially after spending nearly 300 a night. Valet needs better guidance. Check in wasn’t so bad but check out waiting 30+ mins just to get my car was crazy. Seriously some better training or a better system how each lane should be navigated. Grand entry to the room… Greeted with a whiff of mold, trash on the floor, wet bedding, a semi clean bathroom and all types of stains, frm water, rust, blood and unknown. The rooms seriously need better ventilation, can’t stress that enough. They spoke of updates however our room might have been skipped. Sorry to say we won’t be returning.

Much left to be desired

Upon arrival, you’re greeted by an enthusiastic valet team—great if you’re ready to pay $53+ (plus tip) per day. Unfortunately, they either aren’t honest or are misinformed about cheaper parking nearby. Just FYI: there’s a lot caddy-corner from the hotel for $25/day (no in/out privileges), but valet staff insists other options are pricier. Inside, you’re met with a strong signature scent—pleasant, but overwhelming, almost like it’s masking something; but it’s for sale at the counter if you’re interested in taking that with you. Check-in staff was friendly, which was appreciated. We were in town for our son’s BMT graduation at Lackland AFB, so we weren’t in the room much. When we were, we noticed the A/C barely worked, the tub backed up during every shower, and the bathroom fan didn’t function—leaving everything foggy for a while. There’s a small fridge, but no microwave. Also, the double beds are small—not suitable for four adults. One of us ended up on the couch. We didn’t report these issues during the stay because we were too tired to deal with room changes after long, hot days. We did bring them up at checkout, but the receptionist offered no apology or acknowledgment. The location off the Riverwalk is great, but overall, the stay fell short of expectations. We’ll likely stay elsewhere next time.

Loved Hotel Contessa. Beautiful property and the location was perfect. Easy walk to all downtown attractions, restaurants and shops. Being on the riverwalk was awesome!!! Roof top pool was my favorite spot over looking the city.
