Nothing special about The Freeport Ascend

The Freeport Ascend Hotel was just okay. Nothing exceptional about the facilities or staff. It was nice that all rooms were on first floor snd there was plenty of parking. Bed was comfortable, but pillows were like the size of a throw pillow and very uncomfortable. The free breakfast looked pretty mediocre at best. I went with a cup of yogurt and banana. Nothing friendly about staff. Just a blah attitude about having to be inconvenienced by a guest checking in or.

Chose this hotel based on ratings. Desk clerk was asleep and couldn’t communicate. Room was below cleanliness standards: Carpet filthy. Trash left in room. Toilet didn’t flush so they moved us to another room which was smaller. Same issue with toilet. No offer of discount and no expression of concern Would not recommend this property.

The property looked nice on the outside. Upon entering the hallway the heavily scented perfume spay was gasping. Then we entered our room ( we arrived late about 8:00pm) of my goodness. A pungent dog order was overwhelming! The staff graciously gave us another room. It wasn’t as bad but we were glad we only stayed one night.

The staff was nice. The facility including the room had an overpowering smell of carpet cleaner. It’s not the worst but can’t help that it might’ve been masking some other odor. The free breakfast includes Kellogg cereal, which was good, but the eggs seemed like they were premade, reheated powdered eggs. One bite of it almost ruined my appetite! The coffee was great and the breads were great. We liked the location because it was right across the street from the Maine Brewing Company

The staff were kind and helpful, which goes a long way. The room was adequate--not immaculately clean, but just fine. The location was convenient, with Maine Beer Company directly across the street. Better to go out for breakfast. Overall, the price was too high for what was provided.
