I've stayed at this property many times under former owner QT which had admittedly become tired under their ownership. From what I can see, The Oaks have made no improvements other than a replaced pool deck. The removal of most of the character and charm that made you forgive the noticeable lack of care evident with the previous owner has not helped the state of the property. Less staff and poorly managed. Arrived early expecting to hang by the pool until check in at 2pm, but we were not given access to our room until 3.45pm which was the case for a number of other guests. The only food available is through the ONE staff member in the pool bar with no other restaurant options available. This one staff member is responsible for servicing the food and drinks requests of ALL hotel guests making for long delays to eat or drink anything. When we finally accessed our ground floor room it smelled dank and mouldy similar to a guinea pig hutch. The carpet in the master bedroom was even damp clearly the result of a prior flood through the sliding door which had never been rectified. When we complained about the overwhelming smell we were told there were no available rooms to relocate to. We eventually came to an agreement with management of refunding one nights accommodation to compensate for the lack of desire to spend anytime in our room. We checked out on Dec.30, 2019 and despite repeated calls to the hotel with assurances given we still have not received our refund

Property was huge. Rooms were massive with great kitchen and bedrooms. We had a lots of maintenance issues. Couldn’t enter room due to a broken lock when trying to enter. Reception wouldn’t pick up the phone after being on hold for 5 plus minutes. Air con was leaking and obviously had been for awhile as the skirting board had swelled due to the water damage. Not enough staff anywhere. Only one bar staff at pool bar and constantly had long waits. Very frustrating place to stay.

Property had a really great feel to it, the pool was awesome and just a great vibe all around. The resort has a nice open bar and restaurant (Oak & Vines) that overlooks the pool and the resort, really quite a nice relaxing and safe feel. On our particular night, we had brought in a fresh caught barramundi that we had brought from Hook a Barra in Wonga Bay (half hour north of Port Douglas). Simon at the Oak & Vines was super helpful and accommodating in reserving a table and putting us in touch with the chef that night - I believe his name was Moro, and he was absolutely understanding and super willing to help us prepare and cook the fish (for a very reasonable flat fee) and asked us when we needed it by and that it would be done. Not a normal request, but the staff and the chef really went out of their way to make it awesome and memorable for us! One of the highlights of our stay there!

Customer service was pretty good majority of the time. The buffet breakfast and swim up bar were great. Beautiful gardens throughout. Little bit disappointing with how run down and dirty some things were in our room, just requires a bit of fixing up and cleaning up, other then that it was quite peaceful and enjoyable to stay at.
