Lake Superior Cabin,4BR,Sleeps 8, Beach, Fireplace
Summary:
Tahquamenon Falls at peak snowmelt. Whitefish Point bird migration. Lake Superior beach one minute away. Northern Exposure is Paradise, MI's 4-bedroom basecamp for the Eastern UP — sleeps 8, wood-burning fireplace, front yard firepit, and a full kitchen. One of the best Northern Lights viewing locations in the Lower 48, right outside your door.
The Space:
Spring arrives late in the Upper Peninsula and leaves you wanting more. Wildflowers push through along the M-123 corridor, Tahquamenon Falls thunders at full snowmelt force, Whitefish Point fills with raptors riding north on the migration, and on clear nights the Aurora Borealis lights up Whitefish Bay with zero competition from city lights. Northern Exposure puts you at the center of all of it — one minute from the sandy shores of Lake Superior, 20 minutes from the falls, 18 minutes from the Point — then welcomes you back with a wood-burning fireplace, open-concept living, a full kitchen, and a roomy mudroom built for whatever you came back from. Large front yard with a firepit and gas BBQ. Hot showers waiting. 4 bedrooms, sleeps 8. This is your UP basecamp in every season.

The Neighborhood:
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Paradise, MI is one of the most adventure-rich addresses in the entire Upper Peninsula — and Northern Exposure puts you right in the middle of it. Here's what's on your doorstep:
★Whitefish Bay Beach — 1 minute walk
Lake Superior's sandy shoreline is steps from the front door. Swim, kayak, search for agates, or hunt for Yooperlites after dark with a UV flashlight along the water's edge. One of the most accessible and uncrowded Lake Superior beaches in the UP.
★Tahquamenon Falls State Park — 20 minutes
Michigan's most visited waterfall and one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. Hike the trail between the Upper and Lower Falls, rent a rowboat to reach the Lower Falls island, and watch the amber water thunder through old-growth forest. Peak snowmelt in spring and peak color in fall — both are unmissable.
★Whitefish Point Lighthouse & Shipwreck Museum — 18 minutes
The oldest active lighthouse on Lake Superior and the final resting place of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is one of the most compelling stops in the entire UP. Spring migration at the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory peaks in April and May — one of the premier raptor migration sites in North America.
★Tahquamenon Brewery & Pub — 5 minutes
Craft beer brewed in the heart of Paradise, steps from the river. One of the most unique brewpub settings in Michigan — cold pints after a day on the trails or the beach.
★Vermilion Point & Crisp Point Lighthouse — 45 minutes
Two of the most remote and photogenic lighthouses in the UP, accessible via seasonal dirt road. Crisp Point sits directly on Lake Superior with nothing around it for miles. Worth every mile of the drive.
★Yooperlite Hunting — steps from the cabin
Whitefish Bay's shoreline is one of the best Yooperlite hunting grounds in Michigan. Grab a UV flashlight after dark and watch the rocks glow fluorescent orange along the water's edge. A genuinely unique UP experience you won't find anywhere else.
★Oswald's Bear Ranch — 45 minutes
North America's largest black bear ranch, outside Newberry. An only-in-the-UP experience the whole family will remember.
★Newberry — 30 minutes
The gateway to the Eastern UP's most remote adventures. ORV and snowmobile trail systems, the Tahquamenon River, and access to Crisp Point Lighthouse all run through here.
★Sault Ste. Marie — 1 hour
Michigan's oldest city sits on the St. Marys River at the Canadian border. Watch 1,000-foot freighters navigate the Soo Locks — one of the engineering wonders of the Great Lakes. The Tower of History, Point Iroquois Lighthouse, and Lake Superior State University round out a full day trip.
★Mackinac Island — 1 hour to St. Ignace ferry
No cars. Horse-drawn carriages. World-famous fudge. Victorian-era architecture and 80% protected state park. A Northern Michigan bucket list item that never gets old.
★Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore — 90 minutes
Towering sandstone cliffs, sea caves, and the most photographed shoreline in the Midwest. Kayak tours, boat cruises, and hiking trails from Munising to Grand Marais. Plan a full day — it earns every minute.
★Kitch-iti-kipi (The Big Spring) — 1 hour
Michigan's largest freshwater spring pushes 10,000 gallons of crystal-clear 45°F water per minute from the earth. Take the self-operated observation raft over the spring and watch the trout swim below. One of the most surreal natural sights in the entire state.
★Lake of the Clouds — Porcupine Mountains — 3 hours
Michigan's most iconic overlook. Worth the drive for the view alone — especially in fall color season.
Northern Exposure is your basecamp for all of it. Everything above is within reach — most of it within an hour. Book your stay and we'll send our personal Paradise Concierge Guide with insider tips, hidden stops, and local favorites no travel website will tell you about.
Getting Around:
A personal vehicle is required — there is no public transit or rideshare service in Paradise or the surrounding area. That said, the cabin's location is exceptional. Here's what you need to know before you arrive:
★Lake Superior / Whitefish Bay Beach — across the road
The sandy shoreline is literally steps from the front door. No driving required.
★Whitefish Point Lighthouse & Shipwreck Museum — 18 minutes north
Head north on Whitefish Point Road — a straight, scenic drive that ends at the lighthouse. One of the best drives in the UP.
★Tahquamenon Falls — 20 minutes south
Take M-123 south toward Newberry. Upper and Lower Falls both accessible from the same state park entrance.
★Snowmobile & ORV Trails — under 1 mile from the front door
Load the sleds, pull the trailer onto the property, and ride out directly. Parking for 3 full-size trucks and trailers on site. No hauling required.
★Groceries & Fuel — Paradise village, 10 minutes
Basic supplies, gas, and essentials available in town. Newberry (30 minutes) has a larger grocery store. Sault Ste. Marie (1 hour) has everything you could need for a longer stay.
★Dining — Paradise & surrounds
Tahquamenon Brewery & Pub is 20 minutes away and is the local favorite. Newberry and Sault Ste. Marie have broader dining options for day trip evenings.
Personal Boarding Pass App
Once you book, you'll receive our personal digital guide to the Eastern UP — our favorite dining spots, hidden beaches, waterfall hikes, ORV routes, fishing holes, and local insider tips that no travel website will tell you about. This is one of the things our guests mention most in their reviews — consider it our welcome gift to you.

We were a party of 4 adults and this house served our needs very well. A comfortable and well stocked home. The first floor bedroom is smaller with a comfortable queen bed, two side tables, no closet, and an attached full bath that also opens to the kitchen. We enjoyed the roomy enclosed porch off the kitchen at the back of the house and a very nice fire pit in the front. The lake and beach are across the street and easily accessed by a path between two houses. Convenient location for seeing the eastern UP.

Beautiful home! We loved the area. It was easy to move around the UP and see all the things we came for. The house was clean and had plenty of room. We cooked meals and walked the beach. We would definitely stay here again!
Sandy shallow beach. Roomy. Perfect for a quiet relaxing getaway. Kids loved their room and the beach

The house is right across the road from a lovely beach access to Whitefish Bay of Lake Superior. The house is spacious with 2 living areas separated by the dining area and kitchen. We enjoyed the porch with a swing, and also used the firepit area. Tahquamenon Falls (upper, lower, and the island) was very fun to spend a day at. We enjoyed the food at the pub at the upper falls. Whitefish Point with the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and other buildings were well worth the visit. We enjoyed hunting for yooperlites on the beach after dark and agates during the day.

Very Pleased
Had a great experience staying here. It was very clean, had everything we needed in the kitchen and rest of the house was supplied well. Had 8 of us sleeping comfortably in all of the beds. Very spacious and not crowded whats so ever. Great “mud room” that was heated, very large, had boot warmers, hooks and shelves for all of our snowmobile gear. Fit (2) 27ft trailers in main drive plus 1 trailer in the south drive that was previously plowed out for us. Lost power the first night during negative temps, I ran to the gas station in paradise and got some wood/supplies then fired up the wood stove inside of the living room. It made for a cozy feel and in the mean time the owner was Johnny in the spot with getting a ‘whole house generator’ installed to make sure we had power by the time we got back from snowmobiling that day. Very impressed with this place and will be staying again.

House was wonderful but check-in process needs help
The host used the VRBO app to communicate arrivals, but the app failed. The Inbox would never load (and still doesn't). And with the lack of internet and cell service in the UP, it was an extremely stressful process. Process would be much easier if the host communicated directly with guests. And guests should print or screenshot their instructions before heading there.

Girls Vacation
The property was absolutely perfect! Spacious, beautiful, very clean, great location, quiet and lots of amenities. There were 7 of us and we each had ample sleeping space, lots of space for cooking, eating and hanging out. The walk to the gorgeous Lake Superior shore line was easy and close to get to. We were a very short drive to White Fish Point, Tahquamenon Falls and the town of Paradise so there was plenty to do. I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone!
