We spent one night there and wanted to extend our stay for another night. The receptionist confirmed nobody booked the room after us, so it would be perfect. Except that she wanted us to spend twice as much than we spent already. Let's say we paid $200 or so for one night, she gave us a price- $400 for the extra night. We could not believe it! So you'd rather have noone than offering us the same or close to the same price. The room was not up-to-date, but clean. Although the whirlpool was extremely loud, and the toilet flushed poorly, we were somewhere satisfied with the location.

The room tv didn’t work. The jetted tub didn’t work. The breakfast was ok but inconvenient spot on the property. When management was alerted of problem nothing was done. I contacted Best Western corporate office and got little satisfaction. I was only offered $20 credit on rewards program.

The hotel (along with every other hotel in the same street...) was built many decades (1960s) ago. Room access is outside, exposed to the weather. Despite clear evidence of upkeep (alot...) the structure is really showing age with rotten wood corners, mold and moss growing from of the roof, decorative trim broken off and such... Again, there is considerable upkeep going on... But due to age, eventually it isn't going to be enough. A good example... As we unpacked our suitcases, the bathroom bulb over the toilet burned out. Staff was contacted as we left the room for dinner. Upon our return, the bulb was replaced. That's great! 3 nights later, the very same light had another burned out blub. Other then that, ur room was extremely clean, and comfortable despite being extremely tight furniture wise. Staff, particularly the hotel clerks, maids were very friendly, helpful, polite, and genuine. They worked hard, yet cheerful. Good people. The free breakfast offered requires quests to go up to the 3rd floor to a large "reception" room. Room was hot. The food was mediocre... Powdered eggs; ham that I wouldn't eat, much less feed my dogs; bread selections that looked like they were purchased from the Dollar Store. Plastic utensils that broke will minimal force, including a fork whose prongs broke inside my mouth. Fortunately, I easily spit these out. Fresh fruit didn't look good either. Go to a Hilton Home2Suite to see what a good looking breakfast should look like, and eat it too.

Overall great stay. Nice lakeside view. Such a nice room where the Continental Breakfast is! Only complaint is the refrigerator was turned off when we got there and we didn’t realize it until we came back from being out all day. Had to throw away all our food. When we looked to see if it was unplugged, before realizing it was set to “off,” we noticed A LOT of old trash behind the cabinet where the fridge is. A little off-putting but it is an older hotel. Otherwise, great stay!

Location, location, location! On the beach of The Straits of Mackinaw with full view of The Bridge and Mackinaw Island, what more could you want! Walking distance to everything including the ferry over to the Island! Room was as advertised, and loved the balcony overlooking the beach! Would definitely stay here again!
