I was truly looking forward to my short stay in L.A. at this historical property that had been featured in numerous films over the years. I appreciate how the integrity of the original architecture remained intact, however, was disappointed by corners that were cut with renovations. It IS possible to make necessary updates without compromising a structure’s unique features. Unfortunately, my stay here was underwhelming starting with my check-in at the front desk, which was confusing in and of itself. There was no clear definition of who would be waited on next. This led to a dispute among myself, another guest, and what I can only presume were friends of the front desk staff. The two gentlemen walked up to the next available desk clerk before the other guest or I had been helped- when we’d both been waiting 20+ minutes. This started an ugly exchange of unpleasantries. Once realizing the mistake, the clerk apologized profusely for the two gentlemen. The hotel was obviously very busy on this evening (perhaps a wedding) with numerous guests congregating in the lobby. The next disappointment was my room itself. It was adequate, nothing spectacular considering the price. Items in the room were either not in working order or not stocked. The TV didn’t work properly. The little refrigerator in the room was room temperature- hardly ideal for storing any possible leftovers! And, yes, I did TRY to adjust the thermostat. The drain in the shower didn’t work and there was NO shampoo! The

Dirty carpets (and, in some parts, it looked like it has never been cleaned), beds that barely fit a single person, a bathroom the size of those in RVs, paints chipped off at many places, a bathtub faucet that does not fully open, a bathtub that leaks water into the floor. It is among, if not the, worst hotel stays I have experienced in 30+ years (and those includes hotels in many third world countries). In summary: motor inn class accommodation, Ritz-Carlton class price. (Although, to be fair, the heart-of-Downtown-LA drives the price of anything high)
