The first room we received m, the shower smelled of feces in the shower. The hotel cleaning is the bare minimum of supplying towels, and pulling your bed cover to the pillow. They do not wipe the sinks or clean the bathroom. One day they didn’t enter to clean at all.

Most of the staff here spoke enough english to easily communicate. Not to mention they're all so kind, helpful and friendly. This area is down the street from kyoto station and kyoto station is huge. There's plenty of restaurants and areas to shop. There's two 711s walking distance. A ramen and Japanese BBQ spot right next door. Aeon mall is a 10 min walk, had sukiyaki there. Kyoto tower is also maybe a 10 walk straight down. Don quixote also close by. Loved the free amenities bar, they offer toothbrush, toothpaste, face masks, hair brush, face lotion, hair ties, face wash. The best thing was free daily dessert and happy hour! My parents and I looked forward to dessert, matcha ice cream parfaits were amazing! The free happy hour offered 3 diff beers, different wine and sake. Couldn't believe it was all free! Don't hesitate! Book! You wont regret. Oh we did have breakfast included which was decent, not the best but my dad enjoyed it and never missed. My mom and I opted out.

What a gem of a hotel. We loved this place, the room was comfortable and clean. Beds were comfy, staff were always smiling and happy. The hotel itself is beautiful and we especially loved the amenities table with all the goodies including facemasks and gorgeous hair oil. Close to the station and great food. Next time we're in Kyoto we will book the Richmond no hesitation.

Very nice hotel with friendly staff and great amenities. The standard 2 twin beds room is very spacious and clean. Bathroom is clean and good space, loved the soaking tub and separate shower with great water pressure. Hotel also provides free afternoon snack and happy hours in the evening. Would definitely stay again next time in Kyoto.

Best hotel in the world!

Loved this hotel. Best I ever stayed in and I have traveled all over the world. Elegant, accommodating staff, great location by Kyoto Station. Best of all… free ice cream parfaits in afternoon s and free saki, wine and beer at night. Lovely amenities. Laundry facilities. Wish they had a Richmond premiere in every city! This is a five star hotel in my opinion. Best value, ever.

Oooo. So nice. As you walk in, you are met with a garden with running water in the open air atrium(?). Very calming. The staff is amazingly kind and helpful. So unassuming. The room was large and well appointed. The TV gives you updated status on the buffet area on the first floor as well as the state of the laundry machines. The rooms were well lit. The teas were fragrant. The coffee… meh. But I’m an amateur coffee snob. Oh, and the breakfast buffet was just over the top. There’s a Japanese food side and and a western food side. There’s a counter for Kyoto area specials. Wowza. I ate and ate. Then they have tea time with a snack bite provided. Not done ywt — in the evening, they have a number of sakes open and Asahi, Sapporo, and Kirin cans on ice. Really can’t complain. There are great food options in the vicinity. There’s a noodle shop next door that nearly always had a line forming (outside, of course, and in the freezing cold… I was there December). And a charcoal grill place a couple houses down that is excellent. The hotel is close enough to the Kyoto Station to have easy access to anywhere (SUICA is soooo useful…). All said, though, I would stay there just for the amazing staff. There’s a good mix of foreign and native travelers that stay there.

These factors are reflected in my high ratings: within walking distance to train station, lovely architecture, friendly front desk staff, useful amenities available for the taking in the lobby, laundromat on two floors, pajamas provided, complimentary tea time and cocktail service. Shower and bath are great and water pressure is just right, you have thermostat control and a humidifier in the room. I recommend buying up to add the buffet breakfast. The selection is huge and includes many seasonal Kyoto specialties. If you want to travel light you can come here with just a change of underwear.
