The Great Barrier Reef. Ever heard of it? Cairns is the official gateway to it, and it’s easy to see why. It’s got scenic surroundings, sweet nightlife and more fine dining than you can shake a trekking pole at. Pack up those poles and hop on flights to Cairns to see what’s happening in paradise.
Cairns Airport is just 6km from the popular Esplanade area in the city centre and even closer to the north side of town. However, taxis from the airport can be pricey; pre-booked shuttles are a cheaper option for getting to Cairns accommodation. If you don’t have tours lined up, book your own wheels with one of Wotif’s sweet car hire deals, roll down those windows and yell “Freeeeedom”!
If you’re landing at the crack of dawn, the park at the southern end of the Esplanade is a great place to grab a flat white and some brekkie while you watch the town wake up.
Ever zip-lined over a crocodile? If you totally want to, book afternoon Cairns flights and head straight to the Wildlife Dome. Fly through the air along with parrots and kookaburras—and make sure your buddies are ready with the camera.
You’d think everyone would be spent from their day of adventure sports, but night owls will be pleasantly surprised. There are bars and clubs all over town where you can continue (or start) the party.
Here’s a hint on living like a local: Cairns bills itself as Australia’s bungy jump capital. The 50m-high AJ Hackett Bungy Tower was the world’s first tower built just for bungy. Yes, this town is a true pioneer of the adrenaline rush!
For now, your only rite of passage is finding awesome cheap flights to Cairns right here on Wotif—no bungy required. All you need to do is point and click, then get back to Googling images of the Great Barrier Reef. Soon enough, it’ll all be yours.

Rooms were tidied not cleaned which was a concern. Breakfast could be improved. Would rather eat at the the many ...
I didnt realise the party reputation of the hotel ans was a bit put off by the 'jelly wrestling' being shown the day i arrived, but i only had 1 night here and was fairly jetlagged so chose to just crash. The beds were comfy, the hotel style room was spacious, and i wasnt aware of any noise ...
Very spacious and quiet, good location. Manager and admin very friendly. Just a little disappointed not having sea vieuws as the booking said we would get. Would definitely recommend a stay here. We had a great time!
The kids loved the variety of the pools, as parents we liked the Bar & Grill across the road. Being picky, we would have preferred two bathrooms with a two bedroom unit. The internet appeared to not really work and actual reception of the internet was very poor but it didn't interrupt our short break! ...
