If you’re looking for the true cabin-in-the-pines experience, this beloved family cabin won’t disappoint. Originally built by my grandparents in 1958 and lovingly renovated by my wife and me in 2011, this property blends classic Up North charm with modern comfort.
The cabin features a small but efficient layout with a screened porch, cozy sitting area with gas fireplace, and dining space—all with panoramic lake views just steps from the water. There’s one main-level bedroom with a king bed, plus a semi-private loft with two queen beds. A single ¾ bath serves the cabin, and for the true Minnesotans, there’s an incredible outdoor shower overlooking the lake.
Indoor living flows seamlessly to a spacious lakeside patio complete with grill, outdoor dining area, fire pit, and coffee sitting area. The rental also includes a 2023 Bennington pontoon boat, 4-person paddleboat, canoe, and of course a hammock in the yard.
While it’s easy to disconnect here, you won’t be roughing it. The 2011 renovation brought all-new mechanical systems, air conditioning, new appliances, and a Kinetico softened water system. The cabin also includes two HD TVs with cable (DVD/Blu-Ray on the main TV) and free Wi-Fi.
Located just 5 miles east of Crosslake, spring-fed Lake O’Brien boasts exceptional water clarity (up to 24 feet—the cleanest in the watershed). Surrounded by mature pines, the lake has approximately 5 miles of shoreline, with nearly a quarter undeveloped state-owned land. Summer activities include fishing, skiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, paddleboarding—or simply floating on an air mattress. A shallow sandbar where you can walk across the lake is a favorite gathering spot for “kids of all ages.”
The quiet township road is perfect for morning walks or bike rides. In winter, the lake becomes a hub for ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and easy access to miles of groomed snowmobile trails.
This property is ideal for families or couples, with a strict maximum of 6 guests due to cabin size and the single bathroom. Our calendar is kept current, and upon booking you’ll receive a complete “what to bring” list to help you prepare.
We take pride in keeping the cabin, equipment, and grounds pristine. Since we also live on Lake O’Brien, we’re nearby should any questions or issues arise. We’re confident the only disappointment will be having to leave.
Pontoon boat is typically available mid-May through late September.
