Austin Holiday Packages

Great music, great food and natural beauty are Austin's triple treat, and the city lives up to the hype of all three promises. That means that an Austin holiday comes with a built-in soundtrack, plenty of grub and fresh air that will have you breathing easy in this laid-back Texas town.

Things to Do in Austin

Cross the Texas Capitol off your list with a quick tour before hitting up the Bullock Texas State History Museum for a primer on the state's colourful history. As the afternoon heats up, you'll thank us for recommending Barton Springs Pool, where you can keep cool while enjoying Austin's beautiful Zilker Park. The nearby Umlauf Sculpture Garden offers an outdoor art experience that can take you into the evening hours at dusk, head to the Congress Avenue Bridge and watch hundreds of thousands of bats emerge for their nightly bug-eating contest. An Austin car hire (or even a bicycle rental) is essential for getting around this spread-out city locals are much more likely to rely on a bike than on public transportation.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Vintage/resale finds are the currency of cool on South Congress, while The Drag (the stretch of Guadalupe along the edge of the University of Texas campus) offers a mix of funky boutiques and collegiate depots. And you'll really be glad you saved a bundle with one of our Austin holiday deals when you feast your eyes on the Domain, an outdoor mall with more than 100 luxury boutiques.

Speaking of feasting, Austin packages are all about food, which means two things: This city has great restaurants in almost every neighbourhood, and everyone is happy to steer you toward their favourites. If you like to wander in search of your food, walk or drive the South Congress strip between East Riverside Drive and Live Oak Street, where legendary Tex-Mex dishes like stuffed avocados and sour-cream-smothered enchiladas are served on plates heaped with steaming rice and refried beans. And wherever you are in Austin, don’t underestimate the power of the city's legendary food trucks, which often settle in herds in "food truck lots," developed parking lots with several trucks plus shady seating and restrooms.

Before you fall into a food coma, head to 6th Street, where country, blues and rock spill from the doorways of dozens of bars and music venues. This is where Austin's reputation as the "Live Music Capital of Texas" hits home. Several blocks are cordoned off to form a pedestrian mall on weekend evenings, bringing to mind New Orleans’ famous Bourbon Street. A few blocks away, some of the city's best music spots are on Red River between 6th Street and the University of Texas campus, while larger outdoor venues dot the western outskirts.

What's Next?

No need for a 10-gallon hat or a pair of cowboy boots Austin is a come-as-you-are kind of town, and welcomes travellers with a gusto matched by few other cities. All that's left is making your Texas holiday a rip-roaring success with an Austin holiday package from Wotif.

"We had a nice stay at this property. This is a high end hotel and we paid a lot of money to stay there 4 nights. With that being said, I would not expect to be nicked and dimed for every little service. It is 2024, WiFi should be free! Also, it was outrageous to charge $60 a night for parking."
