This property had lovely, clean, spacious rooms and was in a fab location. Just a 10 minute walk from Dam Square but plenty of shops, bars and restaurants around it also. Would recommend and definitely go back! ☺️ TIP: f your going to get a taxi to or from the airport to here, order an Uber because they are half the price of a taxi! 👍

This is a property you must see for yourself. Formerly was the Hard Rock Hotel and there’s still pictures of rock’s roll greats left for guests to enjoy. The staff managing the breakfast buffet were “gems.”

We feel we were short changed twice by Clayton American. On the Expedia web site we booked an Executive Double room with 315 sq ft of space having stayed in one of these rooms on 3 previous occasions. However, on reaching our room (545) it was 215sq ft looking out at a workman’s shed. I suggested refunding the difference since room was fine, but accepted a complementary evening meal instead. However this was spoilt by a badly cooked steak and we were not charged by the restaurant (who were unaware of the complementary meal offer) because of this. However, this was treated as our complimentary meal on our departure with no recognition of the recompense for a smaller room. After 5 stays in this hotel over 6 or 7 years, sadly, we will not return. We suggest Expedia adjust the room descriptions to prevent other guests suffering smaller rooms than that booked/advertised. The staff in the restaurant and greeting guests on reception/ concierge were lovely.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Not only was It was close to public transit it was also very walkable. There are restaurants and stores within a one minute walk. The view of the canal was also very beautiful, especially at night! I would definitely recommend this hotel and location.

Wonderful Week in Amsterdam

This is one of the grand dames of Amsterdam. Originally called Hotel American, it has been updated while still keeping the charm of the original. Near the Leidseplein and a number of tram lines, it is close enough to many attractions while avoiding the very busy Central Station area. The room was spacious with a king bed. Large TV, blutooth speaker, frig and modern bath made for a comfortable stay. Daily service was prompt and thorough. Stayed a week and would return. One small detail that was out of place in an otherwise complete set up was a lack of clock in the bedroom, a given in US hotels.
