**34 Coney Street - a brand new holiday let development of the highest quality right in the city centre**

Coney Street, York's premier shopping street was home to some colourful characters down the ages. In 1150, the main street in York, was called Cuningstrete, the King's Street. But it was in the 19th century that it became a shopping centre par excellence, with high class fashion establishments, costumiers, furriers, milliners, linen drapers, pianoforte warehouse, bookshops and jewellers, as well as the home of York's first department store, Leak and Thorp which opened in 1869.

Lovely quirky apartment

The Silk Mercers is a lovely apartment with bright and colourful wallpapers and lamps. It was in an amazing location, within walking distance to everything in York city. It was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. We would definitely stay again.

Nice

The venue was really well situated in the centre of the city - we parked our car & didn't have to use it during our stay. The room was spacious and had a separate lounge/kitchen are, which was great & gave additional space The room is also nicely decorated with vibrant colours & crazy wallpaper, which was half the appeal. The room was clean on arrival, however, it would have been nice if someone could have come in to change the floor towel (which was soaked through, given that there's no lip on the shower floor & water flows around freely on the bathroom floor) and empty the bins. Towel hooks in the bathroom would also have been welcome (it's a really cheap, easy solution to an annoyance so not sure why it hasn't already been done). A sponge (or something similar) to was the dishes would have been helpful (we found the dish washing liquid & drying cloth but no sponge). And last but not least, I know times are hard & we're all trying to save a buck here & there, but to scrimp on the toilet paper available is just cheap (we bought additional supply ourselves), especially given the daily rate of the rooms. We had a small issue with the espresso machine, and hats off to the girls in the office, it was sorted out promptly & without fuss.
