The hotel grounds are beautiful, pools area is probably one of the best I’ve been to. Bed was very comfortable. Got a free upgrade which was nice. Staff are pleasant. The disappointing this about this hotel is that they put a charge on everything you use, so all the extra services they offer like fitness classes, cultural classes, salt water lagoon, pool seats, and other activities have an extra charge. Most hotels include these services in the hotel fee but here they add on an extra charge for everything. Beware of the resort fee which is added on top of your room charge $52USD per night (for classes, lagoon, internet - we never even used these but still got charged for it) and that doesn’t include car parking which is an extra $33USD per day. Could’ve booked a different 5 star hotel minus all the extra fees. Furthermore, when we arrived the shower still had soap scum on the floor. Would’ve expected more from a hotel like this.

Beautiful Hotel

Beautiful hotel with stunning grounds. Makai tower rooms were spacious and comfortable. Pools and waterfalls were devine along with the dolphin lagoon. Easy 25 minute paved walk to Queens shopping mall or shuttle bus available for a nominal cost. Would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is beautiful!

Pros: The resort grounds, pools and lagoon were beautiful. The artwork is amazing. Overall it was great for us and the kids. Our hotel room was a good size and great view of the ocean.
Cons: The daily $30 resort fee and $25 self-parking is too much especially when the food at hotel is ridiculously expensive. Two 16 inch takeout average pizzas cost us US$68!!
Location: Hapuna Beach is a 10min drive. Close to local shops and restaurants.

Do not book the ocean tower if you plan on staying

Pros: The resort itself and all it communal areas are amazing.
Cons: We booked in ocean tower and had to change rooms twice before we found a room that was exceptable. First room had a drainage issue with the sync flooding with dirty smelly water periodically. The 2nd room had a broken sliding door which was smashed when maintaince were inspecting it due to what I think was high winds. They way this was handles could have been better they could have upgraded or room but instead just incontinenced us by moving us around
Location: The resort has it own lagoon with resident sea turtles. As well as multiple swimming pools even a golf course.

Poor value for money, disappointing

Pros: Swimming pools were great for children.
Cons: Either improve the quality of the food, or lower the price. Don't sell $8 wine for $54. That is offensive.
Location: Golf-courses nearby. 2 local shops with convenience stores and restaurants. Several beaches accessible within 30 minute drive.
Isolated and remote from island's highlights. Man-made resort that utilises the weather but makes no use of the natural features of the island (ocean is not readily accessible within the resort, volcanoes 90+ minute drive). Overpriced and poor quality dining options... best example, Dona and Toni's pizza - $US42 for a very ordinary large pizza, $US54 for the second cheapest bottle of red wine on the menu (price-check after ordering.. RRP $7.85). Don't mind paying for high quality but this was not a quality experience. Plenty of tattoed, spray-tanned men on steroids and no shortage of silicone if that's your thing. Visited the Kailua-Kona region and found access to higher quality appropriately priced restaurants, beautiful beaches, turtles, surf, etc.
