Stay in New Zealand’s volcanic heartland with our Taupo accommodation. Here you’ll explore some of New Zealand’s finest untouched, uncrowded and unique landscapes while learning about the natural changes that shaped one of the country’s most fascinating regions.
Taupo sits on the edge of Lake Taupo, which was created by a gigantic volcanic eruption in 181AD. The lake is the largest in Australasia and measures 616 square kilometres – that’s as big as Singapore! Despite its violent creation, Lake Taupo’s sandy beaches and deep blue waters make it an ideal place to take a dip or go on a fishing trip. The volcanic nature of the region has also formed a number of thermal parks and hot pools. Head to the Orakei Korako Geothermal Wonderland, where you can watch bubbling mud pools and gushing geysers or take a tour of Ruatapu Cave, one of only two caves in the world located in a geothermal field.
Taupo’s natural wonders don’t end there. Take a five minute drive along Waikato River to view the Huka Falls, one of the most visited and photographed attractions in New Zealand. Listen to the roaring rapids and admire the rich blue river as you stroll between viewing platforms. Daredevils can hop on a jet boat and ride the falls! Equally enthralling is Mine Bay, where you can take a boat or kayak and come face-to-face with huge rock carvings.
Taupo’s CBD comes with everything you’d expect from one of New Zealand’s top destinations. Stroll through Taupo’s high street for big label outlets, boutiques and art galleries – perfect if you want to pick up a souvenir or simply want to treat yourself. If you’re planning an adventure, Taupo also has many sports and adventure shops selling speciality equipment. Continue your adventure in Waikato and Waitomo, Eastland, and Manawatu, all close to Taupo.
So wot are you waiting for? Our range of Taupo accommodation will get you on your way to this volcanic wonderland in no time.
