The staff sent a text stating that check out was 10am and I had a confirmation stating 12pm. That was very controversial and concerning. The housekeeper on my floor was very rude and kept asking the guests when are they checking out. That was very bizarre and strange.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Empire Hotel. It is very convenient to many attractions, including Lincoln Center, Central Park, and Times Square. We stayed two nights. The reason for the three stars is how worn and tired the hotel has gotten, even in the seven months from when we last stayed there. Hallways are very dark - mood lighting is fine but this was a bit much - everything from the lobby decor is stained, dated and needs a total refresh, and the hotel room we stayed in had a lot of dents, worn spots, patches and badly done quick fixes when what’s actually needed is a total overhaul of the rooms. It’s not a bad hotel by any means but it could be a great one, especially with the rooftop terrace and seasonal rooftop plunge pool. Everything could be fantastic, but like the staff, it’s a bit lackluster, tired, and overall, meh. All that said, you’re probably not going to NYC for a hotel room, so it does its job in the sense that there is bedding and housekeeping comes everyday.

I stayed at this hotel in New York from August 14th to 17th and booked two rooms. One was on the 5th floor, and the other on the 10th. The room on the 5th floor had no safe box, and the shower water was very poorly regulated. The room on the 10th floor had a terrible, nauseating smell that made me almost vomit once. On top of that, neither of the rooms had a ventilation fan in the bathroom. The air conditioning system in both rooms made an extremely loud and disturbing noise, which made it nearly impossible to sleep. Also, when we set the thermostat to 65°F, it automatically reset by itself as if controlled from elsewhere. The only positive thing about this hotel is its location. Other than that, I do not recommend staying here at all. Honestly, it felt more like a hostel. Even a one-star hotel would have been a better choice.

This property felt dated and underwhelming, but the room was clean. The pool was only open from 11-7 making it unusable for us (I imagine most NYC visitors would be out of the room like us during those hours but would love a swim before starting the day or at the end of the day). The bathroom is tiny with no room to put your toiletries except on the back of the toilet. Also, no stores open near the hotel after 10. We were hoping to get a bottle of wine and the hotel staff had no idea where we could procure one...this seemed odd for a NYC experience! Apparently this city does sleep.

The hotel nails the basic things we need -- firm and comfy bed, A/C, and wifi. 2 of 4 elevators were out of service the day we left, though, which made for chaos as people tried to leave the bldg. Location by Lincoln Center is prime -- safe, convenient, many dining options. Staff were helpful, and free bottled water is a nice touch. The rooms are fine -- the bathrooms could use towel hooks in more intuitive places. Good value. We were originally to pay $750 on Expedia and re-checked later and were able to get $640.

Clean and functional room. Still a little annoyed about not being able to get a full view through our window due to the shade being immovable. No coffee or way to make it in the room was a bit disappointing. Pool was super small but clean and warm. Overall, a fine stay in the heart of The Big Apple!
