Mumbai Holiday Packages

Combine the high-powered hustle of Wall Street with the movie-making magic of Bollywood, and what do you get? Mumbai, a city that seems to be at the centre of all things modern while remaining a spiritual touchstone for two of the world's great religions: Hinduism and Buddhism.

Things to Do in Mumbai

The magnificent “Gateway to India,” on Mumbai Harbour is a natural starting point for adventures. Through the archway of the 26-metre monument, boats wait to take visitors on cruises to Elephanta Island—while it has no elephants, it does have incredible ancient cave temples. The Gateway was completed in 1924 for the arrival of British King George V. Today, you don’t have to be royalty to be embraced—the gate welcomes all visitors to Mumbai’s attractions, like the 200-year-old Shree Siddhivinayak. This towering white Hindu temple to Lord Ganesha is a great beginning for your holiday, since he’s the Hindu god of wisdom and fresh starts.

Craving a chic day out? With its high-end hotels, an impressive skyline and seascape views, Nariman Point at the southern tip of the city is often referred to as the "Manhattan of Mumbai." To get there like a local, hail an auto-rickshaw and buckle up. These three-wheeled, open air motor cabs are a true adventure. To enjoy your India holiday in comfort and style, remember to book one of Wotif’s Mumbai car hire options before you leave for your trip.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Of course, the "Manhattan of Mumbai" has great shopping too, on Colaba Causeway, also known as Fashion Street. Jewellery, clothes, keepsakes and books are arranged along the street, where you can haggle with vendors and walk away with mementoes of your Mumbai holiday. Bartering can be hard work, so you’ll be glad for all the culinary options. Grab a chikoo or targola (don’t worry, they’re just fruits!) from a street stand to hold you over until you can get to the upscale restaurants in Colaba, Malad West or Bandra. Restaurants run the gamut from traditional Punjab and Mughlai fare to newer eateries that fuse styles and reinterpret old favourites.

In Nariman Point and Colaba, you’re already in the right place for nightlife, but remember that most of the high-end clubs have dress codes. After all, you could wind up bellying up to the bar with the stars of Bollywood, who often frequent the same establishments as the city's visitors. The National Centre for Performing Arts in Nariman Point will fit the bill for those looking for a little more refinement. A sprawling complex of five theatres, the centre casts a wide net with a diverse docket of dance, plays and musicals.

It continues to be one of the iconic hotels in the area. Some parts are a little dated, but that is expected given the age of the property. I stayed in a club room - worth every rupee.

I checked in at 11:30 PM. I was given a very dirty and smelly room, which made me uncomfortable.
