"Home away from home"
This is about stay number 4 for our family of 4 from AUS. Hard to go past the Atrium on Ulster for location, cleanliness and overall comfort. The staff are very pleasant but not intrusive and the bonus of having a daily service is very welcomed! We will be back.

Tidy room, with nice decor, quiet location (nothing on at the stadium over the road). Handy off street parking. Staff very thoughtfully turned the heat pump on to warm the room - lovely for us as we arrived late at night. Would stay here again

    Pocket Guide: Huntly

Between Hamilton and Auckland, Huntly is in the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. The town has a coal mining heritage, and several local attractions are dedicated to this industry. There are plenty of cultural places of interest in the area, and it is famous for producing star rugby players. Surrounded by stunning scenery, Huntly also offers plenty of outdoor activities to suit all tastes. Have a look at our range of Huntly accommodation and you’ll be on your way in no time!

To learn more about the town's coal history pay a visit to Waikato Coalfields Museum, where you’ll also hear about the industry's tragic events and find some lovely gardens complete with a charming picnic spot. Enthusiasts can see even more at the Rotowaro Open Cast Mine, and head underground for a glimpse of a former working mine. The gigantic power station bears testament to the formidable power of coal, and it is the biggest thermal power station in the country.

Around Huntly you can enjoy some spectacular lakes for waterskiing, sailing and fishing, as well as cascading waterfalls, lush farmland and a number of scenic walking trails. Trek along the Hakarimata Walkway and enjoy the best of the New Zealand bush, with towering kauri trees, babbling steams, lovely waterfalls, and plenty of birds and wildlife. The Lake Hakanoa Walkway leads you past some waterside houses, the pretty Lake Rotoiti sits in the heart of lovely parkland, and you can wander along the river for some great views. Huntly is in the tribal area of Waikato-Tainui and there are heaps of places of cultural interest in the area. With plenty of Maori history, there are many sacred and revered spots close to the town. These include Te Ohaaki, Kaitimutimu, Te Kauri, and the home of a previous Maori Queen, Waahi Pa.

There is good shopping in the town, as well as a great selection of Huntly hotels. Have a look at our flights into Auckland and flights to Hamilton and make sure you add this interesting town to your New Zealand travel plans.
