I was there with my wife and 2 kids for 8 nights and have to admit it was beyond what I expected... the staff are so friendly, they make your experience fantastic.. my young children absolutely loved it and will definately be coming back very soon...

Nice family Resort, plenty for kids to do. Really nice breakfast. Resort staff are very helpful and friendly. This is our second stay at Goldern Sands and will return again. Mr Foo massage on the beach out side the Resort is a must do if you go any where in Penang.

Very busy, lots of children, so if you are after peace & quiet look elsewhere. ROOM: The bathroom has no separate shower, it is a bath hand shower, disappointing. The beds are very hard, did not sleep well. The buffet food, especially breakfast, is OK tastewise, but it is always the same, so after 2 or 3 days you get tired of it. The breakfast is mostly Malay and Chinese food, so if you don't like curry, fried chicken, greasy noodles and various Asian soups for breakfast, the "western" section is limited. Room service food (fatoush salad, hamburger and a few other dishes that we tried) was poor. The cocktails in the lobby bar were also substandard, in fact the worst cocktails we've tried. The pool closes 7 PM, too early, the gym is small but OK. The area around the hotel is busy (traffic) and ugly/dirty, we did not enjoy Penang at all. The shopping was expensive and compared to KL very limited. Even Penang food, so widely praised, was better and cheaper in KL than in Penang! The hotel is very far from the airport and far from Georgetown, the hotel provides a shuttle bus there and back a few times of the day, so that somewhat compensates for that inconvenience.

Maybe an inspection of the rooms after cleaning would improve the quality, they were clean but still grit on the floor most days and the outside of the shower glass had sticky marks on it from day one to day 6.

The hotel has a lot for kids with the water park and parents as well. It is at one end of the night markets that are directly outside the hotel. The shuttle bus into Georgetown is great and a drop off at Gurney Mall on the way, only downside is no pickup from the Mall. The hotel is starting to show signs of wear but in saying that it is well maintained, though a bit more could be done cleaning the rooms.

Only recommend if you have young children. Most staff are disinterested in their job apart from a small few. The rooms are dated and cleaning is wipe over at best. Could really do with a thorough clean. Hadn’t been dusted in months I would think. Brown rings around hand basins and am unsure what was going on with the tiles around the bath! The facilities where ok but they could really do with a tour desk. Seems they aren’t interested in having you leave the resort. The beds where very comfortable even the rollaway that wasn’t expected because we thought we had twin beds but infact they weren’t, nothing more than king singles. That said, we did have a great holiday but I guess that’s more about the company.
