Comfortable and enjoyable stay with excellent food and drinks. The premises were in need of some cleaning and repairs as the hotel looked a bit tired and somewhat neglected. Staff were professional and attentive throughout.

It was ok

Staff was very attentive to our needs. We only ate breakfast there; it was very good. Our room was clean. However, the room was terribly out of date. There were stains on our carpet (carpet needs removed completely). The room was musty. And being a bit warm, it was difficult to air out and cool the room at night as leaving the windows open let in bugs. I would probably stay again given the location and price but I would look very hard elsewhere first.

It is a tired hotel which needs some investment in the rooms. It is fine for a night if you are going to Gatwick airport but probably not for a holiday stay.

Could do with some TLC

The staff were friendly and efficient but the overall impression is that the whole place could do with a major refurb, especially in the guest areas. Worn carpets on stairs, peeling paintwork, etc. Room overall comfortable but a socket close to the bed would have been appreciated. Appeared to have been recently, but badly, wallpapered and brand new curtains but overall shabby. Bathroom poorly planned, e.g. toilet lid could not be fully opened, shampoo/body wash attached to wall at a height that was ok for shower but impossible to reach if having a bath. Glad I took my own soap. As weather was warm some of the corridor windows were open and cigarette smoke was seeping inside from garden areas. Noticed a fire door wedged open which was a safety concern

Very, very tired room. Overall condition of the hotel decor becomes worse the further away you go from reception. And my room was as far away as you could get. I often think that when you book through Hotels.com you get punished by being allocated the least comfortable room. This room did nothing to dissuade me. The staff were fine, the breakfast was very good, but this place needs a serious makeover. Unlikely to stay again.

Now becoming a regular venue for an overnight stay when visiting the area. Does everything I require. Good size bedrooms and generally attractive interior. Some smartening up needed for the bedroom corridors, but a minor 'negative'

DON’T USE THE GREENE KING APP - rude bar staff

The lady on reception was extremely accommodating and friendly. The bar and restaurant is quaint. The only criticism we have is at the bar manager and the mixologist. We were told by reception on arrival that being a Greene King chain we could order our food and drink via app at our table when we went down to dinner which we did, however the mixologist came over to our table and criticised us using the app as he said he didn’t have all the ingredients for the cocktails we were ordering. So we stopped ordering cocktails and moved on to normal drinks. We ordered some snacks to take back to our room also. The bar manager came over with our order and almost chastised us for using the app altogether which we found highly unprofessional. She then went on to say that they have had huge issues with Greene King site as they did not have alot of the drinks and snacks on the website, we asked her why wasn’t it removed as we had seen she had removed one of the cocktails I had previously ordered surely if she can do this going through the whole menu to do this would save all this hassle no?! We were completely disappointed at the attitude of the 2 members of staff especially as the mixologist came back over to have another go, by this time the bar was full and people were staring at the confrontation. Totally disappointing as the young waiters and the food were amazing shame the 2 senior members weren’t so polite. Nice budget hotel other than this and bed is comfy

Break at Rowbuck

Arrived early and prepared to come back. Told room was ready however they normally charge for early check in. No need for these comments. Hotel very tired. In need of paint and deep clean. Bathroom needs regrouting and upgrading the bath or somehow getting rid of marks on bath. Toilet system very loud and needs redoing. Curtains shredded and need replacing. Hairdryer broken however replaced quickly. Noise from other guests with children running between rooms, slamming doors etc. Tv and talking loudly in rooms. So not a great night sleep. However, good car park and staff good. Only stayed for a couple of nights but would not return until upgraded.
