Take one look at the deep blue water and you’ll be booking flights to Cancun, Mexico, faster than you can say “¡Hasta luego!” That roughly translates to “Later, gator”, in case you were wondering. For several centuries, these smashing sandy shores have wooed beach-lovers, foodies, diving fanatics and shopaholics. If that describes you (or you just need to soak up some sun), check out our airfares and accommodation in Cancun and pack your bathers!
Cancun flights touch down at Cancun International Airport (CUN), about 19km south of the city centre. Cancun is easy to see with the help of friendly bus services. You’ll find lots of stops in the central Hotel Zone and drivers are happy to offer directions. You’ll probably be en route to the beach, so practice asking, “¿Dónde está la playa?”
If you arrive early in the day, you’ll see the sleepy side of an otherwise pulsing city. In the warm Caribbean climate, any time is a good time to walk on the beach. Grab a cup of coffee and wander along the slender Playa Delfines.
Daytime flights will land you right in the middle of all the action, as Cancun “nightlife” starts at brunch. But before you bust a move, grab some snorkelling gear and take a tour of the Cancun Underwater Museum. It’s exactly what it sounds like and it’s breath-taking, literally.
Arriving after dark? Grab a drink and join a beachfront bar crawl!
Cancun locals lead a low-key life, but just like eager travellers, they can’t get enough of the savoury cuisine special to the Yucatan Peninsula. Stuff your face with panuchas—fried tortillas topped with beans, avocadoes and veggies—and papadzules—like rolled enchiladas with a creamy green pumpkin seed sauce. It’s hard to go wrong with anything on a Cancun menu.
