This was our third time staying here. We brought our dog with us on this trip and were disappointed in the way we were treated based on having her with us. We would not call this a dog friendly inn but rather a dog tolerant inn. There are several rules you have to be aware of when bringing your dog that are not disclosed beforehand. You have to enter and exit from the front and walk around the building and only eat on the patio during the breakfast hours if your dog is with you. Dogs are not allowed on any of the furniture, including the bed. We were put in one of the front rooms on the main floor. The room is big and spacious with comfortable seating. The bed was not very comfortable. There were stains on the rug and on the bench at the foot of the bed. The main issue with this room is you can hear everything, from road noise to guests and employees at all hours of night and day. We were woken up multiple times throughout the night from road noise and early in the morning from guests and employees. We spent one afternoon in the room to give our dog time to rest and the employees were very loud. I would not recommend staying in either of the first floor rooms. Overall, we would not return with our dog and there aren't enough amenities to warrant staying by ourselves.

A hidden gem in Charleston

Our stay was amazing. Located right between Meeting Street and King Street - close to shops, restaurants and Charleston sites and attractions. The house is very rustic amd wonderfully decorated. Our room was clean and spacious. The staff were very friendly and their breakfast menu (being "continental" and all) was amazing. I wouldnt call it a continental breakfast at all as you could get anything from grits to belgian waffles, including avacado toast. We would definitely stay at Barksdale again.

A little different from most bed and breakfast inns we’ve stayed at in the past. The facility is primarily beds and baths, more like a hotel. Common areas, of which there are several, are for dining. One is outdoors in a lovely courtyard. We didn’t meet the owners, just staff members who were running the place. Room was great. Breakfast was good, too. Guests order from a menu so there are a variety of choices. Only negative was being charged to park in the facility’s parking area each night of our stay. Seems that could easily be a free courtesy to guests.

Great place to stay.

Our three night stay in the Barksdale House Inn was an enjoyable experience as much for the staff as the Inn itself. Nothing was too much trouble and the included afternoon tea with a glass of wine was much appreciated. The Inn is in an enviable location for all that Charleston has to offer.

Charming with Amazing location

Such a charming place to stay in the historic Charleston district. So close to the tour locations and water for the sunset cruise. Amazing friendly staff and the breakfast was AMAZING! Such a wonderful place. No elevator, so you need to carry your luggage up the stairways.

If you’re looking for something posh or up to date, this is not the place for you. It would be a great property with some TLC. Peeling wallpaper, water stains on ceiling and being able to hear everything in the house made the stay less enjoyable.
