Good stay, pleasant staff

My wife and I stayed one night at this Sonesta hotel. We received a friendly greeting at the front desk and had a very easy check in. Every one of the employees was friendly and polite, often asking if they could help us in any way. Our room was a little worn but very clean. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and well stocked with towels and toiletries. The floor lamp did not work and the desk lamp had a very loose arm for the bulb. I reported these issues to the desk clerk while checking out and a second employee was also writing notes about the issues. The breakfast was better than most with an attendant in the room all the time. They offered cereals, muffins, and other pastries as well as tortillas to make breakfast burritos with eggs, loose sausage, cheese, and other condiments. There is no waffle iron but an automatic machine made great pancakes! If we return to Birmingham we will stay at this hotel and will look for other Sonesta locations in other cities.

Roomy, friendly and great brekkie

Fantastic breakfast, loads of choice. Very helpful and friendly staff. Fully equipped spacious rooms with comfy bed. On the downside, the rooms were old and tired looking, they need money spending on them to modernise and brighten up.

Upfront I would like to mention that I’ve stayed here before and never experienced any problems, however this time wasn’t pleasant. My original room was occupied when I entered. The room that I was given after that smelled smoke and stale. After a long day, I came to find that the shower didn’t work. The prices of these rooms have gone up since I started staying with sonesta. I paid 240 for my room. Not expensive, but not cheap either. I expected better for that price for one night.

Not bad but needs a lot of improvement.

The building and rooms are very old and tired. The beds were comfortable, but the couch in the living room was terribly uncomfortable. Staff is friendly and very helpful though. It's a great property, just needs a facelift in the rooms with paint, carpet, and furniture. Breakfast was nice but NEEDS to run later. Especially on a weekend, closing at 8:30am on a Sunday is way to early

I felt like for what we paid, I expected better. Room smelled smoky, there was hair on the walls in the shower, one of our toilets had urine on the seat, the closet doors had bent metal pieces someone could easily cut themselves on. Front staff was great and very friendly though!
