Stayed here 11 years ago with my mum and opted to stay here with hubby after our river cruise. The hotel has had a make over and looked wonderful. Our room had a lovely view over the canal. It was very comfortable and spacious. Bathroom had everything supplied. Nice hot water and good water pressure. The staff were lovely and helpful. What I really like about this hotel is that it is walking distance to museums, markets, shops, cafes, restaurants and the subway. We even walked from central station through the streets admiring the architecture. This took about 40 minutes but well worth it! Would happily stay again.

This hotel had modern, pleasing decor and pleasant staff. It is within walkable distance to art museums, cafes, and small shops. My room had a lovely view of a canal, but the balcony doors opened to windows that do not open. The elevators do not work properly and are frustrating. The lobby area is a welcoming spot to visit with friends.

First impression recovered with the girls staff

My first impression bad the guy watched me struggle with my suit cases with the very steep stairs and ramp and my suit case twisted around hurting my wist when I yelled wow doesn’t this hotel have anyone to help two old ladies! Then he decided to help and no one was at the front desk that needed attention. It was bad and it got worst when I ask can I drop it off since the taxi is waiting we are late for our tour and he didn’t care he said the room is ready but he took his sweet time slow at least 10-15 minutes to register me in my room that was already prepaid! Yikes But the other staff came on duty and it was a very nice experience after the first registration event. The breakfast was excellent variety of food and the girl staff made up for that guy! The girls were super nice and helpful and made up for the registration event! He was stubborn and he should have taken our suite cases given a ticket a 5 minute only and then we wouldn’t have a taxi bill of over $150 eu!

Location is the best part of this hotel

First of all, Amsterdam and nearby areas turned out to be a dream area to visit. The Dutch are (mostly) so friendly. More than other European countries I have been to. The best thing about this hotel is it's location. You can walk to the Rijksmuseum, Albert Cuyp market, Joordan, easily. You can take public transportation to Haarlem and Giethoorn. Both are beautiful and must sees. The public transportation is confusing. I wish the hotel would offer more help here. Really enjoyed the cafes and bar, including the Alto Jazz cafe. All walking distance. Nearby canal and bridge was charming. A canal cruise is a must. We chose Flagship for its open boats and we took the 9:15 pm tour which was heavenly. Albery Cuyp market was amazing. Recommend the fish place highly. The harring was so fresh. So many food options. Need to book museums in advance. Missed Van Gogh. A word on the service. It is curt. Maybe cultural. No proactive help is offered. If asked a question, the tendency is to cut it off quickly. The only exception is the spanish speaking staff. Shoutout to Manuel. Could have provided proactive info on transportation and nearby attractions. Did not feel like asking after initial conversation. Room is not as big as spoken about, particularly for North Americans. Canal view is a must. Other side is drab. Shower leaks onto toilet by design. Self service pantry is a plus for late nights. Overall, was happy with the location. Not likely to return but not dissatisfied.
