Why you should swap roses for a hotel stay this Valentine’s Day

Roses are lovely, don鈥檛 get me wrong. But let鈥檚 face it, half the fun of a V-Day flower delivery is wowing your colleagues 馃槈 With many of us still working from home (thanks COVID!), I reckon it鈥檚 time to ditch the roses and put that pressie money to much better use. Not only will it get you massive kudos, it might even save you money.

What better use, you say? Well, we鈥檝e crunched the numbers and discovered the cost of a dozen red roses may be on par with a hotel stay in your capital city this Valentine鈥檚 Day. Plus, according to a survey we ran, 85% of Aussies agree that they鈥檇 prefer a night away over roses this V day***. (I can鈥檛 say I blame them!)

Looking at the the average cost of Valentine鈥檚 Day roses from a selection of over 50 florists across the country, we found that a bunch of twelve red roses in some capital cities could set you back approximately $147*. Comparing that to one night鈥檚 accommodation in a city hotel, Aussies can nab themselves a great deal with some of the country鈥檚 top hotels offering stays from approximately $145**.

So with Valentine鈥檚 Day falling on a Sunday this year, make the most of the weekend and treat yourself to a cheeky night away, I say! There are some fantastic hotel deals available, with prices below what we鈥檇 typically see on Valentine鈥檚 Day, so take advantage of the excellent value and skip the red roses this year. Not only will a staycation be sure to spice things up after a challenging year, you鈥檒l also be supporting hotel operators that surely need it. It鈥檚 the ultimate last-minute surprise that will impress even the greatest Valentine-sceptic.
