Picking the perfect hotel is one of the key planning steps for the perfect family holiday. South Australia might be renowned for its wine regions but it has plenty of family-friendly spots the kids will love too.
So I’ve gone ahead and picked my top six stays to make your next getaway a kid-friendly one. Enjoy!
1. Marion Holiday Park
Adelaide
Give the family the full caravaning experience, just a 25-minute drive from the Adelaide CBD! The kids will love the giant lagoon pool and waterpark, while you can relax at the poolside bar or in the beer garden. Marion Holiday Park has loads to do, like hang out in the games room, hit a few balls on the tennis court, bounce high on the jumping pillows, or kick back with an outdoor movie. Yep, Marion has pretty much everything a family could need – and it’s close to the shops for anything else 😉
2. Kangaroo Island Holiday Village
Kingscote
Kangaroo Island has lots of amazing things to see, like the Remarkable Rocks, some beautiful lighthouses and, of course, the majestic sea lions. Kangaroo Island Holiday Village is just the stay to make the most of your visit, handily located close to the Kingscote Tidal Pool. The Family Room comes equipped with a full kitchen for meal prep, a high chair for the littlest guests, and a separate bedroom for the kids with two single beds. There’s a great barbecue area too!
3. Morella Farm Stay
Fleurieu Peninsula
Pack the gumboots for an authentic farm stay in Cape Jervis on the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula. You and the fam will enjoy having the full run of your own self-contained farmhouse (which comes with a big bag of feed to share with your 200 new farm animal friends). The houses have massive bedrooms with queen beds for the parents and bunk beds for the kids, as well as a cosy fireplace for winter. Morella even has a trampoline and a tyre swing to complete the country experience.
4. The Pink Lake Tiny House
Clare Valley
Parked right next to Lake Bumbunga (Clare Valley’s iconic bubblegum pink salt lake) is The Pink Lake Tiny House: a handcrafted tiny house on wheels. It’s, frankly, adorable, and makes fantastic use of its space – with two loft bedrooms, it can sleep up to four people. Kids will love the cubbyhouse-like atmosphere, and there are plenty of hidden-away board games and karaoke mics to keep the little ones entertained. It’s awesomely located too, close to the Yorke Peninsula and the rest of the Clare Valley.
5. Wilpena Pound Resort
Ikara-Flinders Ranges
Nature-loving families, this one’s for you. Experience the best of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges at this outback resort, right inside the national park. Set up camp in one of the Family Safari Tents and pack your hiking boots for the many trails and guided Adnyamathanha Aboriginal cultural walks. At the end of the day, cool off in the on-site swimming pool or head to the general store to stock up on snacks.
6. West Beach Parks Resort
Adelaide
Kids will go gaga for the kids’ haven that is Big4 West Beach Parks. There’s everything fun a kid could desire, like go-karting, an AquaCove water park, a tennis court, jumping pillow, and, of course, TWO water slides (as well as poolside cabanas for the adults 😉). Book the Deluxe Bungalow to enjoy your own private barbeque and coffee machine too.
