4/10 Poor

The good news is that the room was warm, clean and comfortable. In principle I would return to this hotel.
The big problem is that on arrival I was asked for more money! This is very damaging to both the reputation of the hotel and that of the booking site (hotels.com).
The detail is that I was asked for £5 (room charge £62) to park my car. This charge was not obvious from the website which showed as an amenity "car parking". It did not say "chargeable car parking" or similar. Given that the hotel is in a motorway service station between two junctions the need for car parking is clear.
Where I am now is that I have lost confidence in the details put on the hotels.com site. I do not know who is responsible for those details and I do not know whether deep in the small print the charge is explained. I simply do not want to have to scrutinise the small print to check every legal term. I want to assume good faith on everyone's part.
I have never had to pay parking charges at either a Days Inn or a Days Inn by Wyndham motorway hotel before.
I thought this kind of small print trickery (if indeed the charge is in the small print) had long disappeared.
I would ask both the hotel and hotels.com to update the description of the hotel (and others in the group) to make it clear that parking is not included in the price quoted.
